Works- for- me- Wednesday

This is my first time posting for Works-for-me-Wednesdays.

My helpful hint is that I use my dessert plates as spoon rests while I’m cooking dinner. It makes less mess on my stove top, and keeps the counters nice and clean too.

I hope one day to have a collection of spoon rests, but until then my dessert plates work just fine for me.

Spider Bite and I’m Up all Night

Yesterday I was changing Dylan’s diaper, and I noticed a small bruise on my lower left leg. Not a big deal, just something little. Later on in the night the bruise became a perfect purple circle, and my leg started hurting a bit. This morning a the bruise is now a perfect bull’s eye. I don’t know what bit me, but I’m afraid that I might have ticked off a spider yesterday. Thinking back it must have happened when I was filling up Dakota’s water bowl outside, and shaking he dog food bin with my left leg. Great, one of the many benefits for living in the mid-west in the Summer.

Last night Thade was worried that mommy was going to have to go back to the hospital (because of the bite), so his tummy was hurting. He was up late, but finally calmed down around 11:00 p.m. I got Dylan off to sleep too, and he was right up at midnight and again at 3:00 a.m. to nurse. He was acting a little funny though, and wasn’t ready to go back to sleep after the second feeding. At 3:45 a.m. I found out the reason why. He got sick right in my face, and then on my arm, and then all over the bed. Lovely. I scooped him up, and got both of us cleaned up. I put Dylan back in his crib, where he was so happy and playful (he was feeling much better). I went and cleaned up all the messes, without disturbing my sleeping hubby.

Promptly at 7:00 a.m., Thade came in to tell me that he had some really wet pants. His pull-ups had leaked, and everywhere, right through his jammies, all over his bed, and his favorite blanket. I got him all changed, and in to some new dry pants.

What a long and late night. Dylan is back to his little happy self today, and Thade is too. I’m so tired, and the laundry pile is looming ahead of me.

105+

Today the heat index is going to be up around 105 F, that is just too hot. I took the boys out early this morning to try and beat the heat. By 9:00 a.m. it was already 85 F. We got to the store at 10:00 a.m. and by the time that we were finished it was 90 F. I hate getting the kids out in this kind of weather, but it has to be done. I plan ahead to keep them cool and comfortable for the trip.

  • I make sure and dress the boys in light colored clothing.
  • I pack a sippy cup of cool water for Thade.
  • I feed Dylan before and after we get home from the store to keep him hydrated.
  • I try to time my shopping trip for the coolest part of the day.
  • I keep the boys sitting in the shopping cart while I’m loading up the purchases. I do not want them sitting in the car even for a minute.
  • I park close to the cart return, so I don’t have to carry the boys too far.
  • When the weather gets too hot, I limit my shopping to just one store.

What are extra steps that you take to beat the Summer heat, but still get those errands finished?

Sales Tax Free Weekend… Tempting

This weekend is the annual sales tax free weekend in MO, a mere 20 minute drive from my house. I’m tempted, but I’m trying my hardest not to go and shop this weekend. I have plenty to do around the house to keep me busy. I might have to go out for milk though, bummer.

The free sales tax sale is limited to Clothing, School Supplies, Computer Software, Personal Computers, and Computer Peripheral devices. All categories have their limits and restrictions too. To read more about the sale check out the link to the Missouri Department of Revenue.

Happy shopping and saving too!

Walgreens Soon?

According to the local rumor mill, Walgreens will be opening next week. I really hope those rumors are correct. I can’t wait for the store to open, it is going to save me tons in gas money and time on the road too. I’m so happy that we are going to have another place to shop and save those precious grocery dollars. Now if we can just get an Aldi to move in to town.
