A Favorite Meal

I mixed up my menu a bit this week. I knew that my husband was going to have a very long day today. This is his second day this week that he has worked a 12 hour shift. I decided to make one of his favorite meals, Pot Roast with Potatoes and a Chocolate Bundt Cake. The whole house smelled yummy when he made it home today, and he was thrilled to get his favorite meal mid-week.

What are some of your family’s favorite meals?

Flat Brownies

I thought it would be nice to have some freshly baked brownies for my hubby when he got home tonight. I gathered my supplies and got to baking. When I pulled the brownies out of the oven, I noticed that they looked a little flat. Maybe it is the humidity that flattened my brownies. Oh no, I had forgotten to add the 1/4 cup of water. I tried one out, and it is still pretty tasty, just a little chewy.

I think the sleep deprivation is starting to get to me 😉

Busy days

The last 2 days have been non-stop. Thade is trying his hardest to give up naps all together (bummer). Dylan is now skipping 2 naps a day, and nursing an extra 2 times a at night(really big bummer). I’ve been wearing him more and more in the Snugli so I can get a few phone calls made, and e-mail all caught up without him yelling at me constantly. He is a little “mommy attached” at the moment.

I took the boys shopping yesterday. We did pretty good on the savings side, and both of the boys were great at the stores. Our Walgreens hasn’t opened yet, so we are still driving 30 minutes away. I can’t wait for our Walgreens to open, it will save me so much time, and gas money too. Now if we could just get Dillons, Aldi, and Arby’s in our town, we would be all set.

Today I’m cleaning, doing laundry, and baking some items for the weekend. James has been craving Chex Mix, I can’t say no to making that. Great now I’m craving that too. Better go and grab a late lunch while I have a chance.

Never mind the lunch,I hear Dylan waking up from his nap. I had better get back to the little guy.

A Change in the Menu

With the weather as hot as it is this week, I’m trying to keep the boys indoors and cool. I’ll be running to the store in the evening for just the essentials. I decided to take stock of my freezer and pantry and see what meals I could make for this week. The change in the menu will help out with the budget too. Here are the changes to the menu:

7/9/07: Steak and Shrimp, Green Beans, and Rice
7/10/07: Lasagna, Green Beans, and Garlic Bread
7/11/07: Beef w/ Rice-A-Roni, Green Beans, and Hominy
7/12/07: Salmon Cakes, Corn, and Rice
7/13/07: Chicken Nuggets, Mac and Cheese, Fries
7/14/07: Grilled Chicken, Fried Rice, and Green Beans

I had all of the items stockpiled, which makes for easy menu planning. I hope that we get a break in the hot weather soon.

Embracing the early morning

I’m really not a morning person, at all. I would love to sleep in past 10:00 a.m. if possible, sadly all of my boys are morning people. This morning Dylan was up and ready to eat at 5:45 a.m., James was up by 6:00 a.m., and right at 6:30 a.m. Thade decided that he was ready to get up too. No sleeping in for me today.

I decided to take advantage of the lack of sleep, and bake some double-berry muffins this morning. They smell super yummy, if they are good, I’ll share the recipe. I’ve already gotten a pretty good start on my to do list, so here is what I have left to do today:

*Feed and water the kitties 2x
*Wash and fold 3 loads of laundry
*Get all of the bedding together for the laundry tomorrow
*Wash and put away clean dishes
*Call the bank and hospital
*Make a shopping list and go to the store
*Clean the utility room (again)
*Today’s room to clean in my homemaker’s journal:Living Room (vacuum, dust, etc.)

I’m going to go and eat some breakfast while Dylan is resting for a little bit.
