The I’m Boreds Hit Early

I was hoping for an I’m Bored free day, but the kids were up at 6:30 a.m., and the I’m Boreds hit before 9:00 a.m. I did a quick check of the weather, it was almost 80 degrees out, I loaded up the kiddos, and we made a quick trip out.

0014

Our first stop was to the library to get a few weeks worth of reading materials for Thade. We were in luck too, our favorite librarian was in, and she helped the boys find a lot of great books.

019

We loaded up the bag with chapter books for Thade, and board books for Dylan. Dylan isn’t reading just yet, but Thade really likes to read the board books to him.

0024

Then we ran to redbox to grab a movie. The kiddos wanted to see the second Diary of a Wimpy Kid movie, and I thought that sounded like a pretty good afternoon to me.

021

Dylan kicked it on a chair in the office, and tried to solve a Rubik’s Cube for a bit.

0271

Thade played his DS for a bit after he finished reading three of the books that we got earlier in the day.

029

Dylan set up a Yo Gabba Gabba! art instillation for Agnes.

Then it was time for Thade to photo-bomb every picture that I was taking.

Thade the photo-bomb master!

When the longest part of the afternoon hit ( 1:00 p.m.-3:00 p.m.) we kicked it on the couch and watched a movie. It was really funny too, and I could relate a little too much to the Mom in the Diary of a Wimpy Kid.

I finished up the day by making a big batch of chocolate cupcakes, and giving the boy’s much needed hair-cuts (I’ll have those photos up laters).

Tomorrow it is supposed to be hot again, so we’ll see if we can survive another day of the I’m Boreds.

The I’m Bored Bin

The weather is going to be brutally hot this week, so we are probably staying indoors all week. We went to the store early this morning, and it was already 80 degrees outside, way too warm for eight in the morning. I know tomorrow is going to be a really long day, the temp is supposed to be 104, but that is before the heat index, it will most likely be 110-115, absolutely miserable.

When I was picking up the boys room this morning, I came up with an idea for an I’m bored bin, since I’m probably going to hear that a few times this week. I found an empty toy bin and gathered up a few favorite books and dvds to keep us busy. I also have a few art projects on hand (thanks Uncle Rob) to pass the time tomorrow.

0023

Hopefully it will work!

I won’t be bored though, I’m still slowly taping our bedroom, and I have lots of coupons to clip and organize. Hope everyone is staying cool this week, let’s all hope for an early and cooler Autumn.

Tape-land

I am determined to get our bedroom painted, and soon. I’ve started the prep work this week. I’ve been taping off the woodwork, and I’m close to being done. I can’t wait to start the painting part of this project.

Shopping Trips 7/7 & 7/10

I haven’t been out and about too much as of late, the heat is keeping me indoors. I did hit a few stores last week and stocked up the stockpile a bit more.

0013

Last Thursday we headed to Woods. They had a cereal deal going on (5/$10) and a great price on Milk too. I found a few more good deals throughout the store, and I was really happy with my coupon savings. I saved 26% on this trip, not too bad.

I had been meaning to check out our new Family Dollar for a few months now, and finally on Sunday we strolled through the store.

0034

Their prices were competitive, and even lower on some paper products. The store was well stocked, and very clean too. I also learned that they accept manufacturers coupons, and coupons that can be printed from their website. I love a store that is coupon friendly. We will definitely be shopping there again.

So I had one freebie for the week. The pasta from Woods was 10/$10, and I had $1.00 off coupon, so that one was free. A super tasty freebie that I will turn into pasta salad.

The good buys for the week were the cereal it was $1.60 per box after the coupons, and the Crystal Light was only $.50 a box after coupons. I tried to stock up on Milk for the week too, it was down to $3.65, and that is the lowest that I have seen for quite awhile.

We’ll see what this week brings, local sales ads are out tomorrow, and I’ve got my coupons ready.

Indoors-land

It is hot, really really really hot, and my van is still in the shop, so we are stuck indoors. It is also the middle of the evil hot Summer, and the “I’m bored” phrase is making it’s way through the house. I’m trying to keep the kiddos happy and busy, but it sure is messy.

0021

The boys could spend hours building with blocks. We have several bins throughout the house. They also love to knock their towers down, and Agnes screams “Whee” whenever a big block mess hits the floor.

011

Agnes’ favorite indoor game is dump all of the toy bins on the floor, and then take out the bottom of the toy bins, and play with that. Yes, the toy bin inserts are so much cooler than the toys.

0022

The kids have also started to love films, all kinds, doesn’t matter. As long as it’s brand new (to them) they’ll watch it. Thade prefers campy movies from the 90’s, and Dylan would watch every Toy Story movie 24 hours a day.

Of course Thade is reading. I have to keep on him to do it, but he is reading 4-5 chapters a day. That reminds me, we need to get those library books back before Friday.

0051

Thade has become mega helpful this Summer. He loves to clean-up after Agnes, and helps with chores around the house. I let him have a little time on the Wii, to say thanks for being so very helpful.

I am still cooking, cleaning, and kinda gardening, although I try to stay out of the Sun as much as possible. Today I started the prep-work on painting our bedroom. I cleaned most of the trim, and started taping off all of the woodwork. Hope my hubby doesn’t mind, I’m ready to get the project going.

So how to you like to beat the Summer heat without going batty indoors?
