Dentist Visit

I’m a worrier when it comes to the dentist, yep I’m a grown-up who is deathly afraid of the dentist. I know it is silly, but it is true. I’ve been afraid of the dentist for most of my life, and when Thade had a cavity, I was worried for him too. I was determined not to pass on my fear of the dentist to my kiddo though, and make his first filling visit go well.

He had a check up earlier in the month, and the dentist said that we wouldn’t have to see a specialist, and Thade said that he felt o.k. getting the cavity filled. He was a little nervous though, and I tried my best to put his mind at ease. I even told him that he was part of the “cavity club” it’s the cool club that gets to visit the dentist. Both his mom and dad are members too.

We talked a lot about the upcoming appointment. I did my best to answer any questions that he had.

When the day arrived he was really worried, but I got to go along with him. We had an awesome dental hygienist who took extra time with Thade to explain all of the tools that would be used, and answer any questions that he had. When the dentist arrived, he had a few more questions, but he said he was really excited to get his filling.

Thade did such an awesome job, that big kid didn’t even flinch when he was given a numbing shot. He said that it felt funny to not be able to feel part of his face. He was done in no time, and at the end of the appointment, he gave the dentist and the dental hygienist a great big hug, and told them it was the best day of his life, he felt so much better after his filling.

They also sent him home with three pieces of his favorite gum, and a coupon for a free ice cream cone too. I’m so proud of my big kid, he is a way better patient than his momma.

My Morning Walks

With Thade back in school, and the morning weather nice and cool, we have started walking at the track again. So far I can only walk one lap, I have Dylan in tow, and the track is just big enough that he is pretty tired after one lap. I think the track is 3/4 of a mile, but Agnes has a blast riding in her stroller.

I am hoping that once Dylan is in school, I can hit the track more often and walk a few laps on the days that he has school. I have a goal in mind to finally lose some of this baby weight, and walking is a great way to get started.

Let’s hope for some cool Autumn and longer walks at the walking track.

Couponing Vs. Frugal Meals

I like to have a Summer project, a habit of mine that my mom gave me when I was just a little kiddo. This Summer I decided to take on couponing to try and save on our grocery budget. I bought lots and lots of papers, clipped till I had blisters on my fingers, and organized my binder till my eyes went batty. I also worked daily on a large spreadsheet full of my shopping lists, and savings. I decided I would track everything for three months, and see just how much I saved.

I think I picked the wrong months to try and save… Grocery prices are on the rise almost weekly here, and my numbers just were not where I wanted them to be. I don’t want to get grumpy about my project though, so I am devising a brand new plan. Over the next three months I am shying away from the coupons, and focusing on frugal meals, more from scratch cooking, and more generic brand shopping.

I love numbers, so you know I will be crunching them. I want to find out which really saves my family the most on the grocery budget, coupons or frugal shopping.

Which do you think will win? Will coupons reign supreme, or will frugality and lots of home cooking win out in the end?
