A year ago I was here…

On Sunday, I was here…

Most days you’ll find me here…

But yesterday, for a few brief hours, I was here…

And for the first time in six years,
I felt like I was home.

So far we have a few plants in the garden, and this week a new lot was tilled too. I can’t wait to get to work on the North garden, I have a lot of plans for this newly tilled land.
First off Dylan and I have planted…

Strawberries! We have picked most of the berries already. I caught a little Robin snacking on them, but I don’t mind. I bet she has a nest somewhere with little turquoise baby bird eggs.

Cauliflower, yum!

Broccoli too!

Little blueberry bushes, and raspberry bushes too. Even a row of okra, but they are still seeds, not plants just yet.
I love to go for early morning walks, so does Agnes. It is a fantastic way to start my day, and it’s also my best chance at getting in some exercise. We like to visit our local walking track and walk a lap or two.

The view is really pretty too.

Even if it is cloudy skies.

or an icy-blue sunrise,

you just can’t beat a morning walk.
This year we are really working on the backyard, and I’m excited, I get to plant a lot of plants. I’m working on a butterfly garden to go near the veggie garden. I hope we can attract some good bugs and keep the bad ones away from the tasty veggies.
We had great weather yesterday so the little kids and I ran to the store to get some flowering plants and mulch too. I needed to re-mulch the Hosta bed, and add new mulch to the new part of the garden. Dylan was happy to go along and help.
We came home with…

Two pretty Red Azalea bushes. I love those gorgeous blooms.

Two large cool green Hosta. One of my favorites.

We also planted two Lilac bushes. The scent is amazing. I hope they grow great big and strong.
We still have a long way to go, but we are off to a great start on this year’s garden.
A little over a week ago James got me a tiller and a great pair of gardening gloves, I decided it was time that I got to work on our garden. I always have a big idea in mind, but not too much follow through. We set in on tilling a bit here and there, we even tilled two new areas to add to the garden. I think those will become a butterfly garden to bring the good bugs in.
This last weekend we cleaned out leaves, ivy, and the Hosta bed too. I also tilled a bit near the fence, and just maybe I’ll get some little plants to add to the area. Since a lot of the prep work was finished, I thought today would be a great day to get some plants in the ground. I loaded up the little kids and headed out. We stopped at a few local shops and came home with a great start.
We bought Broccoli Plants and Cauliflower, even though Dylan doesn’t like either of them. I also bought two Blueberry bushes, and two Raspberry bushes too. I think they will be great additions to the garden. This year I’m giving Strawberries another try too, so we picked up six plants.
We had enough time this afternoon to get all of the plants in the ground, and also a row of Okra planted too. Dylan’s favorite veggie of all time. I still need to till and weed a bit more, and get the Corn and Green Beans planted too. I think we are off to a great start though.
