Fair Fun

Yesterday it was a warm and windy day, but that didn’t keep us from visiting the Local Fair. The entire downtown closes down for the weekend and there are bands, shows, tasty treats, and plenty of shops to check out handmade crafts. Sometimes I think about opening a booth, and then I remember it is June in the Midwest and that means heat and humidity, and then I quickly change my mind 😉

One of my favorite places to visit is the Fort. It is an beautiful site and a great place to learn all about Civil War History. During the Fair is is a bargain too, you can visit for free.

I just love the little mules, they were adorable. Thade even got to pet one 🙂

Of course we had to visit the carnival…Thade loves to ride Amusement Park Rides!  He really enjoyed the swings, but he wasn’t the biggest fan of the Carousel.

The rainy weather even stayed away for the day! There are a few more events going on today, so we might make one more trip to the Fair 🙂

Checking Out the Local Scene

This weekend our usually quiet town has a big festival, and it starts off with a fun parade.

This year was an extra special event, the Budweiser Clydesdales were here to lead the parade 🙂 It was the biggest turn-out I’ve ever seen for the Summer parade!

The parade theme was Pennies for Progress. Locally there is a penny drive going to rebuild one of the parks. There were lots of Penny themed floats, but Thade’s favorite was the little white house, it is so cute.

Of course there were plenty of Cars, Trucks, and Tractors in the parade. Our next door neighbors were in the parade too 🙂

Both Thade and Dylan loved the parade. Thade made sure to wave at everybody, and he came home with way too much candy 🙂 Dylan had fun looking at all of the people and he really liked the cars.

But like all great Midwest parades it was cut a little short thanks to a Summer Thunderstorm 😉 We got out a little early, and went out for Ice Cream! It was a fun parade, and I can’t wait to check out the festival this afternoon, I just hope that the stormy weather stays away for just a bit.

I hope that everyone is having a great weekend!

Not The Coffee Maker!

I was enjoying my cup of coffee yesterday morning, and I could hear the strangest screeching sound. It sounded like an exotic bird trapped in my backyard. I walked into the kitchen and I could hear the noise getting louder and louder, and then I realized it was my Coffee Maker (Hamilton Beach Brew Station) boiling itself dry. Why coffee maker? Why! This is the one appliance that I need to function properly everyday!

I thoroughly cleaned out the machine, and this morning crossed my fingers and hoped for the best. I plugged it in, pressed the magic red button, and again the same awful sound screeched from my beloved coffee maker : (  Luckily I held on to my little 4 cup Mr.Coffee maker, so it should get me by a little while.

My Brew Station is only two years old, but we have some awfully hard water in our area. I’m pretty sure it was the hard water that added to my Brew Station’s demise, not me running major amounts of coffee through it daily 😉 Just in case I’m shopping for a new coffee maker this weekend, does anyone have a favorite brand of coffee maker that you use at home?

Homemade Gifts

I was busy sewing all last week to make a few handmade Birthday gifts for my Mom. She visited us yesterday, and my Mother in law too. We all had a fun time at Thade’s T-Ball game, even though it was really really really hot outside 😉 After the game we came home to have some tasty birthday Chocolate Bundt Cake.

I had it all planned out in my mind that I was going to make 5 reusable grocery totes and a cloth gift bag too.  I was shopping with Dylan yesterday and I spotted the mini rabbit cookie cutter that was just too cute to pass up. I thought it would make a cute “tag” on the gift bag.

Thade picked out the purple canvas for the bags, and I really love the middle pattern, it is teeny tiny daisies.

My very favorite has to be the ribbed white polyester, I know you are thinking polyester, but it is just so cute. I embellished the corner with a few buttons, and I just love how the bag turned out. I’m making one for me soon 🙂

Happy Birthday Nana!

Today is my Mom’s Birthday! I’m still working on her present and baking a cake too. She is going to come to Thade’s T-Ball game this evening, and Thade can’t wait 🙂 I hope that she has a very fun birthday, and there are two little guys that can’t wait to give her big hugs. Happy Birthday Mom!
