Baking the Cake

Today I had plans to make a 4 layer cake for my birthday. I was going to alternate White Cake (dyed pink), and Chocolate Cake, and smother the entire cake in Vanilla Icing. I’ve got the Perfectly Pink Cake out of the oven, and I’m a little nervous about attempting to cut it in half. My birthday cake might just turn into a 3 Layer Cake instead 🙂

I also went to Walgreens today to buy a few more packs of Diapers, and my friend told me that all of the Valentine’s Day candy was on sale for %50 off! I bought a few, well maybe more than just a few of the treats. I think I’ll share the goodies with our company tomorrow.

It Is The Big 28 For Me Today :)

Yep its my birthday 🙂 The big 28!

We don’t have too many plans for today, but I will be in the kitchen attempting a 4 Layer Cake for tomorrow! Dylan did gave me a cool gift, he slept through the entire night last night (no nursing), so I got a solid 7 hours of sleep 🙂 I think I’m going to sneak out of the house today and leave the kids with my hubby and do a little shopping. James is treating us all to dinner at my favorite restaurant tonight, so no cooking for me!

Tomorrow we are having a little party, and all of the family over to watch the Daytona 500. If Matt Kenseth (#17) or Jimmie Johnson (#48) wins this race, it will be a great birthday weekend for me 🙂  On a side note James is hoping Kevin Harvick (#29) wins this one again, and Dylan agrees with him. Thade is favoring Carl Edwards (#99), or maybe his other favorite Kasey Kahne (#9).  It looks like it is going to be a fun weekend 🙂

Back, But Did I Save?

We made it back from the big shopping trip, and both of the kids did great. I was shopping with a migraine, so I didn’t do so great. Today we shopped across state lines where the sales tax is a little less, but the great grocery savings were nowhere to be found. I did stay under budget, just barely.

Staple items were more expensive by $.20-$.50 an item. Also a dozen eggs were $1.98 where they are $1.70 here. I did find a few items that were less, Baby Formula was about $5.00 less for a 25.75 oz (large) container. I splurged and bought the large can of formula that should last me about 2-3 weeks, so big savings there. Also there was a lot of Wine on sale, some bottles were under $4.00, maybe that one was a Valentine’s Day sale 😉 Milk prices were very high, but I did buy some tasty Organic Carrots (1 lb) for a mere $.98 🙂

The big savings today was stopping for gas while I was there. Along the trip I saw gas $.10-$.26 less than what we are paying locally. I gassed up on the way home, and saved some that way, but my headache was feeling worse, so I was in need for some coffee. We stopped off at Sonic for a Java Chiller and a Small Drink for Thade, it was Happy Hour there, so Thade’s drink was only $.59, my Java Chiller was full price. Well there goes the gas savings, at least it was on a tasty Vanilla Java Chiller 🙂

All in all it was a fun and informative trip. I am saving at my local Supercenter versus going across state lines for the lower sales tax. In the next few weeks I’m going to check out the local grocery stores and see if the prices are any lower. I’ll keep you posted 🙂

In the Pursuit of Savings

This week I had planned on shopping around locally and looking for the best deals. All of my plans were halted by horrible weather, so I’ll have to get on that task a little later. Today I am starting my Savings adventure by shopping out of state. I hope to save a little extra on the grocery budget due to less expensive sales tax. The gas across the state line is also less, so I think I’ll fill up hubby’s car while I’m out of town.

We’ll be going out this afternoon, and I’ll (hopefully) be reporting back soon with the great savings.

Quiet Evening

Last night we decided to have Valentine’s dinner at home, and it was so much fun. My hubby took off work a bit early so we could watch the Gatorade Duels at Daytona, I’m so glad that NASCAR is finally back. I made a big dinner, and we were going to even toast with a bottle of wine.

I was busy in the kitchen cooking and trying my hardest to uncork that bottle of wine (note to self purchase a proper opener, my Swiss Army knife opener isn’t working), I finally opened the bottle, poured our two glasses and presented them to my hubby. We toasted to each other, and took one sip, and we both realized that we were not a fan of the White wine. So I made two cocktails and we re-toasted 🙂

For dinner I made Steak and Steak Fries for my hubby, and I had Shrimp Scampi over Spaghetti, both were delicious. I made a big batch of Brownies for dessert too 🙂 It was such a great Valentine’s Day, and we had so much fun watching NASCAR! Staying in might become a Valentine’s Day tradition 🙂
