Home Woes

So my dryer went out yesterday… I’m still calling around to get an estimate on the repairs. I’m pretty sure it is the heating element that has gone out.

Well, we still have to get the business of laundry done, so we’ll be spending a bit of time at the laundromat until the repairs are done.

The kids don’t seem to mind though. They had fun hanging out at the laundromat.

I need this sign in my laundry room.

It has just been one of those weeks/months/years…

A Little Project

Yesterday I switched into my Summer tote bag. It didn’t have a little pocket to hold my phone, so I thought I would crochet a little pouch.

I picked out lots of different colors to make a striped phone case. It took me a little over an hour to complete the project.

It fit my phone perfectly. I might add a button and a little clasp to it later. For now it works just fine, and keeps my phone safe in my tote.

Blooms and Greens

Summer has arrived, and already it is too hot for me out there. The garden has shifted from pretty blossoms, to hearty succulents and blooming Hosta.

The lilies have finally bloomed.

This is their third year in the garden. They look pretty in the ivy and shade.

These little lilies never got very tall, and oh goodness I have neglected my weeding duties.

The Hosta have bloomed. The hosta bed also needs a bit of tiding. It is overgrown with Mint, and other little weeds that need pulling.

Friday my Mother in law surprised me with a new plant for the indoors. I love the deep dark purple of the Orchid. It was such a sweet surprise.

The Orchid looks pretty happy in the indoor garden too.

What about you… What are you growing in your indoor or outdoor Summer garden?

Works In Progress

Like usual, I have three crochet projects going on at once. I’m working on two different afghans for Agnes, and one housewarming gift for my brother and his girlfriend.

The first afghan for Agnes I started way back in April. It is going to be a multicolored granny-square afghan in shades of maroon, coral, and pink. Agnes chose all of the colors.

I set my pattern, and I was making pretty good progress on crocheting all of the granny-squares.

Then I ran out of pink yarn…

So I had to stop just where I was. I checked our local store every time I went grocery shopping. A few months later the yarn still hasn’t been restocked. Luckily my Mother in law came to the rescue, and she found a few in another town.

So I am back to work making bright Summery granny-squares.

When Grandma (my mother in law) visited in May, we girls went shopping. We headed to the craft department, and Agnes spotted some bright pink yarn. Grandma picked up three skeins of bright pink to start me off on another afghan for Agnes.

The pattern is a quick one. It is a single crochet, followed by two double crochets. It makes a nice and fluffy fabric, and it is very fast to crochet too.

I’m hoping to make this afghan twin sized, so it can fit Agnes’s bed. I picked up a few more skeins last night, so I can keep crocheting on this one.

Lastly I have another granny-square afghan that I have been working on since May. It is going to be a housewarming gift. I think it is going to have 400 squares, and they are edged in a pretty heather gray.

I started the project off by making some granny-squares.

Lots and lots of granny-squares.

I’ve tried to make ten a day, but I don’t always meet my goal.

This morning I finished granny-square number one hundred and thirty.

I still have a long way to go, but this colorful project has been a fun one to work on.

As most of my projects go, we’ll see which one gets finished first.

Summer Sewing

I’ve had the sewing machine out a few times this Summer. I love to sew in the Summer, and this time I made a quick and easy dress for Agnes.

My mother in law found this super-cute aqua smocked Hello Kitty fabric. She picked up some for Agnes.

It was super easy to sew too. Just pin, and go.

I sewed some little straps on too.

All done, this little dress just took minutes to sew.

Agnes liked this one too.

The fabric is light and airy.

Perfect for Summer!

She is ready for a trip to the Farmer’s Market.
