12 Months 12 Projects

0031

This is one thing that I hope to get done this year, well make that 12 things. My list of projects that I need to do around the house is getting a little overwhelming, so I decided to tackle the list one month at a time. I figure there are 12 months in the year, that is plenty of time for me to complete 12 projects. So here they are in random order:

  1. Finish painting Agnes’ Nursery
  2. Paint the Master Bedroom
  3. Paint the Upstairs Bathroom
  4. Paint the Boy’s Room
  5. Organize Agnes’ Nursery and Closet
  6. Organize the Boy’s Room and Closet
  7. Paint the Kitchen
  8. Clean out the Utility Room
  9. Deep clean all of the closets and cabinets throughout the house, and have a yard sale
  10. Re-arrange the Kitchen, and make room for a pantry
  11. Clean the back-yard, and organize all of the outside toys
  12. Enclose the side porch and make a new office for James

Surely I’ll be able to get a few of these done this year…

We’re Waiting and Waiting

So let’s see we are starting day 4 of the great heater stand-off of ’09, and I’m staying optimistic today. I’ve already talked to the repair-man, and hopefully the delivery truck is on the way.

I haven’t been downstairs yet, because yesterday it was colder than this…

The little arrow had dropped below the black line. Just when I thought it couldn’t get any colder it did. I may sneak down to get a picture of it, but it is too cold for me to go down and make coffee, and I really love coffee, so that is a good indicator of just how cold it is downstairs.

So we are staying upstairs, and hoping for the best. I really really really hope that the heater is fixed soon!

Heater Stand-Off 09

Last night we were feeling good, Monday was on the horizon, and we knew that the repair-man would be over in the morning. We woke up bright and early, and James called to make sure that we were on the list. I ventured downstairs into the cold to make coffee and a big breakfast to celebrate. Then the phone rang…

It was our repair-man, and he had bad news. The part that was needed for the heater wasn’t in stock, and it wouldn’t be delivered until Tuesday. We were crushed, and instantly bummed. The upstairs is holding heat, but the space heaters have been running 24 hours a day, and the kiddos are really starting to get stir crazy.

So we were mad for a bit, and even got on the phones to see if there was any way that we could find the part in the 4 states, and there just wasn’t any available.  We then decided that it was time to get out of the house.

We  bundled up the kiddos to go downstairs, and then outside and off to the store. We restocked the upstairs with a few days of supplies, and picked up Happy Meals for the kids. We are all feeling better after the break, and the space heaters got a much needed break too.

I just hope that everything will go well tomorrow, and the heater will be fixed!

Kitchen WIN & Kitchen FAIL

Oh which one to write about first…. Let’s start with the hilarious fail first.

I was cooking dinner last night, and Dylan was “helping” me. He was at the table, sorta sitting on a chair, and I was stirring a big pot of Chicken Noodles on the stove. All of the sudden Dylan decides to slide out of the chair sideways, and the chair started to turn over. I drop my spoon, and go to catch Dylan on the chair as it is beginning to fall. Instead my hand gets wedged under the chair, so Dylan and the chair smash my left hand. Dylan was fine, I immediately had two swollen fingers that wouldn’t bend.

I panicked, and was worried that I just got 2 broken fingers, but the swelling started to go down by the end of the evening, thank goodness. Today I’ve got a giant deep bruise on one, and it still barely bends, but the swelling is gone on the other finger. If I could get the lighting right, I’d take a picture, it’s on my middle finger. So that is a little funny. Nico in the kitchen is one dangerous and hilarious mess sometimes.

So on to the kitchen win!

My mom came to visit this weekend and keep an eye on the kiddos while I got caught up around the house. She arrived with cookies, and a giant box containing an early Christmas/birthday present. I was surprised when she said that the present was for me…

I literally burst into tears when I saw what was inside the giant box. It was a 20 piece set of stainless steel Wolfgang Puck cookware! I was so shocked, and I truly appreciate the gift. My mom said “I wanted to give this to you for your birthday, and then I did the math, and figured out that you would be cooking 180 meals before then, so you need it now.” She is too sweet! I have to admit, it is really fun cooking with the new cookware.
