Outing Accomplished

Yesterday evening Dylan and I went to a baby shower. The baby shower was at 6:30 p.m. I knew I needed to make dinner early, and have everything ready to go by 6:00 p.m.

Yesterday was also the day that Thade and Dylan both decided to take an unexpected afternoon nap. At 3:00 p.m. Thade fell asleep, and stayed asleep until 6:00 p.m. While I fixed dinner Dylan fell asleep, and stayed asleep until 6:10 p.m.  I lucked out though. I was following a friend to the baby shower, and she was running late too. Continue reading »

Just a Moment

Dylan is taking a mid-evening nap, and Thade is busy chilling out on the couch. I thought I would take a little break and catch up on my laptop.

Today I have lived in the kitchen. I made two kinds of cookies for hubby’s work. I think I ended up making around seven dozen. Most are going with James, but a few are staying at home. I also made up a huge batch of Chili, some for dinner and some for the freezer.

James and I are going on a (much needed) mini vacation next weekend, so I am busy getting everything ready. We will have the Grandma’s babysitting so I’m stocking the freezer and pantry with easy meals. That way they don’t have to run out for take out. They are babysitting for free, so at least I can supply the food 😉  I’m also pumping a bottle a day for Dylan. I’m a little worn out from that.  Continue reading »

Eat Your Veggies

Did anybody watch the Discovery Health Channel show called The Truth About Food last night? It was titled How to Feed Your Kids, and it was all about getting your picky eaters to eat their fruits and veggies. I only got to watch half of it because it was bath time. In that all to short half an hour, I learned a few new tactics to try when it comes to dinner time.

The show featured food experiments to get kids to eat. One of my favorites was the veggie loving child actors placed at school lunch tables. The actors ate their veggies and encouraged the kids around them to eat the veggies too. The non-veggie lovers seeing the actors eat quickly ate all of their veggies too. Peer pressure=veggie lovers. Where did it all go wrong?

beans-1.JPGbeans-2.JPGbeans-3.JPG

This month I’m trying to cut our grocery budget and making more from scratch. Last night I attempted to make Re-fried Beans, and I miserably failed 🙁 Where did it all go wrong? I sorted, rinsed, let sit overnight in plenty of water, rinsed again, all ready to smash, and the beans are still hard as rocks!?! I added water, and let them boil for 2 hours, and lets just say the results were not pretty. I’m not giving up though, and I’m going to try to make one more batch. Any tips and pointers would be greatly appreciated.

Freebie Finds

Today I made yet another trip to Wal-Mart. Two to be exact: one for James eye appointment, and the second for groceries. On the second trip to the store we said hi to the super nice greeter, and she asked what size diapers Dylan was wearing. I said 2-3, and she asked if I could use a free sample. She then gave me 12 samples of Pampers Swaddlers size 2 diapers. The diapers also came with a pack of 6 count Pampers Sensitive Baby Wipes. The small packs of wipes will be perfect for my diaper bag.

I was so happy with this freebie. I came home with 12 diapers and 72 wipes just for saying hi to the greeter 🙂
