The First Day

So far so good. Agnes is feeling better, Dylan is busy playing with Mia, and Thade is playing the play-station. I’m playing catch up on seven loads of laundry, and making a tasty Winter meal to kick off the new season. I need to clean the kitchen, and finalize the Christmas meal shopping list too.

I have to say it was really nice getting to stay home this morning. The kiddos were up extra early, and they are even more excited for Christmas to get here.

Hope you are having a lovely Friday, and Happy first day of Winter too.

Odds and Ends

Well today is the last day that I have to work on the house before the kids are home from school for two weeks. Thade is feeling better, and Dylan was so excited to enjoy a Christmas party at school today. Agnes is sick though, and her tummy is miserable. I hope she gets well soon.

I’ve been cleaning, catching up on laundry, making some cookies, and working on the boys room. I’ve got the boys room fairly clean, so I’m calling it good. I’ll probably deep clean everything again before Christmas with all the sickies going around.

I’m anxious to get the kids home, and enjoy a bit of a break. It is nice to have a few weeks off from the school routine. They are extra excited too, we got the first snow of the season today, and they were all so happy about it. Agnes has been watching out the window and hoping for more snowflakes.

Happy last day of Autumn, stay toasty if it is snowing in your neck of the woods.

Getting The House Ready

It is almost time for Christmas!

In just four days it will be Christmas break too.

I’m re-planning my Christmas menu, and making some lists too.

There is also a lot of cleaning and cooking to do too. I like the cooking part though.

I’ve got a lot to get done, but I am ready to get to it. Happy Monday everybody!

Whew! It’s Monday

The boys are back to school, and I’m getting the house back in order. The laundry has piled up over the weekend, but the dishes are done.

The cold arrived this morning, and the kiddos did not want to leave the house. I really didn’t want to either. Happy Monday everyone, hope your day is going well.

A Decade of Homemaking

This November I will have been a homemaker for the last ten years. It is still surreal to me that it has actually been ten years since I’ve had a leave the house job.

When I started off as a homemaker, to be perfectly honest, I really sucked at it. I couldn’t cook, I could do laundry, but I didn’t have a clue how I was going to spend every day. I had no idea what to do.

My adulthood arrived in a quick three year span… I went from high school, to first job, to management, to moving out, and home-ownership, to unemployment, to finding a new job, getting married, and then moving to KS. It was a crazy few years.

Just after our first anniversary, we moved to Coffeyville. It was then that James suggested that I stay home. We were newly married, and in a new house. I had a few job offers, but we were thinking of starting a family, and our future. The more we discussed it, the more we realized that I should be home. It would be tough, but  we decided to bite the bullet, and see if we could make it. I’m glad that we made that decision for me to stay home.

After ten years of staying at home, I finally feel like I am hitting my groove with homemaking. This last year has been a strange transition for me… The kids are getting older, and I’m starting to find time for what I want to do, instead of what I have to do.

I’m excited to see my interests shift into home decorating as the school year progresses. It is nice to have a little extra time to work on home projects.

In the next year I want to spend more time finishing up projects, and decorating our space too. We’ve lived in our current house for six years, and I finally want to make it look like our home.

There have been a lot of sacrifices for me to stay home, but it has been worth every single one. The kiddos are happy, and being a stay-at-home wife has kept our marriage happy too. I really appreciate all of James’ hard work, so I can stay home and be a mom, and a happy homemaker too…
