The Last Day of Christmas Break

Today is the last day of Christmas break, and I’m feeling a little guilty. Guilty, why? I’m looking forward to tomorrow!

The house has been completely trashed for the last three weeks, and the kids have eaten everything in sight. Also the kitchen is a MESS!!! I really need a few days where I can get focused and get the house back in order.

The tiny kids have been fighting like crazy too. They started before Christmas break began, and throughout the break they have been at it non-stop. It is time for all of the kiddos to get back on schedule and back to school.

Even Miss Mia is stressed!

So It’s That Time of Year Again

So it’s that time of year again and my seasonal affective disorder is absolutely kicking my butt. Call it Christmas blues, but no matter what this time of the year completely exhausts me. I am stressed out, worn out, and even my bones ache, I just want to sleep, and it happens every single year.

I go through the daily motions, smile and wave, wish a cheery holiday to all, but this time around,  it is just getting to me badly. I know others feel the same way during the holiday season, and to be honest I take some comfort in that knowledge that I am not the only one.

I don’t despise Christmas, in fact I love the true meaning of Christmas, I love sharing a meal with loved ones, and even the soft pretty glow of Christmas lights at night. It is the mass commercialism, unabashed consumerism, and plastic nonsense that follows. The greed, the wants, and then the what’s next isn’t the real meaning of Christmas, but it is what I seem to see more and more.

I wish the holidays could be simple, peaceful,  and honestly come with less things…

I’ll get off my soap-box now, thanks for listening.

Last Week To This Week

Last week flew by, and this week is going by a bit slower. I can’t complain though, I am doing my best to  enjoy the quiet days while I have them.

There has been lots of cooking, cleaning, baking, and more cleaning going on.

I visited the local library to get a few books on knitting. I am hoping to finally learn how to knit this Winter.

It seems like the kids have homework every single day. Agnes loves it though.

The kids got much needed hair-cuts, and we got some ice cream to celebrate.

I finally got the hang of casting on, and I’m making some progress on the knit stitch too. It has been a very slow process, but it is fun to learn a new craft.

Almost Caught Up

This week has gone by in a flash. The kids have been very busy in school, but Miss Agnes missed a day with another cold. IMG_5877

I have just about got the house all cleaned up after Thanksgiving. I finally got all of the dishes washed and put away this afternoon, and I cleaned downstairs too. I still need to work on the upstairs, and put away a few loads of laundry.

Maybe I’ll have the house back together just in time for Christmas. Speaking of Christmas, I am no way at all ready. I hope that the kids stay healthy next week, so I can do some shopping while they are at school.

Better get to it, dinner is done, and it is time to clean the kitchen again.

Thanksgiving Break

Thanksgiving break started last week on Wednesday. The cooking started on Sunday. I just couldn’t wait… I love Thanksgiving, and baking lots of yummy treats for the family.

The kids were quickly bored, but I kept busy the entire time. Starting on Sunday I baked banana bread, and got my lists organized. Monday I got to babysit my darling nieces! Tuesday I finished up the shopping, and started baking all of the rolls. Wednesday was pies,  desserts, casseroles, and my vegetarian dishes. Thursday was ham, turkey, mashed potatoes, and gravy. Thursday was the easiest day for me, I had so much already done, I got to hang out with my family a bit.

I did stick with my veggies! And I’m really proud of myself for it. I served the main Thanksgiving meal for lunch, and I put all of the non-veggie items, and family favorites on the buffet. I served all of the vegetarian items in the kitchen. It worked out pretty well.

It was an amazing Thanksgiving. We all had such a great time catching up, watching Football, and eating lots of tasty food. We even got to babysit one more time too.

Now that the kids are back in school, time to get the house back in order.
