A Year Of Crochet

Last October I picked up a scarf kit, and slowly taught myself to crochet. It wasn’t too pretty at first, but I kept at it.

My first project wasn’t the best. After that very first scarf, I was hooked on crochet…

I worked on lots of little projects.

I also tried making a few larger projects.

I think about six months in, I was starting to get the hang of it.

It has been a fun, and relaxing hobby to learn.

I hope to keep it up for many years to come.

Yarn Run

I’ve been making lots and lots of hexagons and granny-squares for a few projects (maybe Christmas presents), and my yarn stash was getting a little low.

My super-sweet hubby told me to visit the yarn section, while he and the kiddos checked out the lawn and garden department.

I found lots of pretty colors, and I got my craft table re-stocked and ready to crochet.

Handmade Halloween Decorations

Well I didn’t get the scary closet cleaned out, so that means the Halloween decorations are still in storage. I wanted to decorate just a little. I decided on crocheting a table runner to help decorate the dining room.

I love granny-squares, so that’s where I started. I picked out my most Halloween colors of yarn, and got to work.

I added row after row, until I liked the look of the squares.

I connected the granny-squares at the corners, and then added a few more rows of bright color.

The kid’s Halloween pumpkins have cozy spot to sit until Halloween night. The dining room has just a bit of decoration now, and it will be easy to store for next Halloween too.

Crochet Projects In The Works: Hexagons and Squares

At last count I have four crochet projects going on at once. Some I have been working on longer than others, and one I just started.

I’ve made lots and lots of granny-squares this Summer.

I’ve made over one hundred hexagons too.

I really need to finish this granny-square blanket for Agnes…

I’ve started making a blanket for our bed too. I hope to have this one finished by Winter.

I hope to make a yarn run soon, and restock so I can make some more granny-squares, and hexagons too.

Finished Project: Agnes’ Pink Afghan

I started this project just before the boys were out of school, after a trip to the store with Grandma. Agnes spotted very pink yarn, and Grandma bought me three skeins to get started on an afghan for Agnes’ bed.

I couldn’t wait, I got right to work.

One day in, and it looked like a really cute pink scarf.

The big kitty kept me company while I worked.

I kept the project upstairs, and worked on it whenever I had a chance.

Agnes also snuggled in the unfinished blanket whenever she had a chance.

I made a few yarn runs, and kept going. I lost count on just how many skeins went into this project.

I used our bed to measure my progress. I never take the time to properly measure, I just eyeball it. I was hoping that this pink blanket would be about twin sized to fit Agnes’ bed.

Finally, I was almost there. I decided to add one last skein of yarn, and weave in all of the ends.

Late Sunday night, I finally had it completed.

I couldn’t wait to give the blanket to Agnes. She has been asking me every single day if it was done yet…

For the pattern I used a J 6.00 MM hook, and it was a simple one single crochet, two doubles, and repeat row after row. I used Red Heart yarn in Pretty in Pink, and I’m guessing it took around ten skeins to finish the project.

She loves it, and I love the bright pop of color. It fit her bed nicely, and it is soft and cozy too. I’m going to attempt to make one for our bed next. We have a king sized bed, so I’ll be crocheting for a long time.
