New Hexagon Throw, and The New New Throw

I’m trying to crochet more in 2014. I would like to finish a throw (or a project) a month. Honestly, I would just love to sit around drink coffee, and do nothing but crochet. But alas, there are other things to get to.

I started this throw while the boys were on Christmas break. I found the pattern in one of my crochet books, and I loved it. It was a quick throw to put together. I finished it earlier in the week, and the big cat has already adopted it.

There are 121 hexagons in all.

Agnes claimed it first.

The big kitty claimed it as his too.

I think I’ll put it in the foyer, for everybody.

I really like the look of this throw. I might just have to make a few of them for next Christmas, to give as gifts. As soon as I was done, I started on another crochet project.

Pretty colors for a granny-row throw. Agnes says this one is her’s, no matter what!

Crochet Work In Progress: New Throw

When the kids were on Christmas break, I looked through my crochet books for inspiration. I found a bright hexagon throw that looked perfect to chase away the Winter blues.

I read through the pattern, and it looked like it would be perfect for a quick project.

I love all of the bright colors. This throw is completely random, and colorful.

I’ve made eight rows so far (88 hexagons). I still have more work to do, but it is a lot of fun.

Handmade Ornaments

This is the last week of school for the boys, and I’ve been getting the Christmas party treats together for Dylan’s class. I really enjoy being room mom, and getting to catch up with everyone during the year. While we don’t have to be there for the party, we do need little gifts for the stockings. Oh yeah, Thade’s class needs them too.

So I started thinking, Dylan’s class has about twenty-two kids, and I think Thade’s has twenty-three. I really didn’t feel like running to the store to pick-up stocking stuffers, so I decided to go the d.i.y. route, and see what I could come up with.

I started with my crochet books (that my brother gave me) and looked for some inspiration. I found a different way to make hexagons, that started with rounds, and I thought that would make cute ornaments.

I also had everything on hand to get started, so no extra trip to the store for me.

I got to work, and made a few rounds.

I thought they looked pretty cute, and Dylan approved.

The little ornaments were quick to crochet too.

I think they are pretty cute too.

Once Dylan’s were all finished, I started working on the ornaments for Thade’s class.

I added on an extra row too.

I hope the kiddos like them.

It was a fun afternoon crochet project, and I saved a little bit too.

Finished Project: The Hexagon Throw

I started this project way back in July. I crocheted my first hexagon, and decided to keep going from there. I’ve wanted to make a few handmade gifts this year. I decided to make a colorful hexagon throw for my mom.

I took a quick stock of how many I had made. I mapped out a little pattern, and I then realized that I was going to have to crochet many more.

I started stitching them together, little by little.

I stitched, sewed, crocheted, and went through a lot of yarn.

I counted up all that I had crocheted, and three hundred was the count. It still needed a bit more.

So I crocheted a bit more…

Peanut came to visit the craft table…

I think I was a bit loopy after crocheting that last hundred hexagons.

Time to finish this up.

A few more stitches,

and done.

Several months of work, and four hundred hexagons, and I’ve got a gift for my amazing mom.

I hope she likes it.

I love this finished project. I just might have to make a few more of these.

Thanksgiving Table Runner

This year I am extra excited for Thanksgiving. I’m decorating the house just a bit for the holiday, but my front-door felt turkey is missing… I made a little decoration for the dining room, and the kids picked out some small pumpkins and gourds to decorate with too.

I picked out some Autumn colors of yarn, and made a few granny-squares.

Once I liked the look of the granny-squares, I crocheted them all together with a light brown yarn.

Agnes wanted to help too. I liked the look of the table-runner, but it needed just a bit more color. I picked out some more Autumn yarn, and added in more granny-edges around the runner.

The Thanksgiving table-runner fit the buffet nicely. I can move it to the dining table for Thanksgiving day, or just keep it on the buffet.

It was a fun project to make, and it got me started decorating for Thanksgiving.
