May’s Crafts: Knitting and Crochet

May seemed to be the shortest month so far. The kids had only a few weeks of school, and we had school stuff going on most of the time. I carried along small knitting and crochet projects with me. I also started a few more big projects at home too.

One of the coolest surprises was this giant box of yarn from my Mom! The box was filled with different types of yarn, wool, and some cotton too. I loved going through all of it, and feeding the stash.

I’m still knitting this chunky blue scarf. I think I’ve been working on it off and on for a few months now. I’m still a pretty slow knitter.

Project time! A multi-hue Mexican style blanket for Dylan. He likes green (his favorite), shades of blue, and grey.

I finally finished knitting a scarf for Agnes. Even though the weather was a little warm for scarves, she wore it to school anyway.

My kids fight over the cleaning products in the house, especially the swiffers for dusting.

Since I had a few skeins of cotton on hand, I crocheted a few cleaning cloths for the tiny kids.

Dylan’s blanket is coming along nicely. I seriously love this color combination.

The 2017 Temperature blanket is still going strong. Row by row. I can’t believe how big this blanket is getting, and we’ve still got a lot of 2017 to crochet.

I’m planning on working on lots of projects now that Summer is here. I’ve started a multi-hued blanket for Agnes. I’m also knitting some cleaning cloths too. Now I just need a little more room for the ongoing projects.

Little Garden

This year I’ve only introduced a few new plants to the gardens. Most of what we have growing in the north garden, and the side porch garden have been growing for years.

The Red Lily were planted about six years ago. They used to be so small. Now they have branched out, and produce beautiful large blooms.

We have had a lot of rain, and the Hosta are pretty happy about it.

Lula-mae keeps watch over all of it. She is waiting for the marigolds to bloom. They are her very favorite.

Miss Mia is my favorite distraction from yard work.

Last year I picked up a large batch of free Iris bulbs. We planted some in the front yard, and some in the north garden. We even had a few blooms this year.

Agnes loves to pick whatever is blooming in the yard before Dad mows. I always have a big batch of dandelion or clovers hanging out around the house.

It is time to re-pot the Begonia that Agnes gave me for Mother’s Day. There have been so many lovely pink blooms.

Our avocado tree keeps growing. I had started a second seed, but it didn’t make it.

I moved some of the Mint from the north garden to the side porch garden. I also attempted to grow some Cilantro this year. I didn’t snip it in time, and it bloomed. The little white flowers are so pretty though, so I’m not too upset about it.

Our Daisies bloomed again this year, and they were absolutely beautiful. I love daisies, they are one of my favorites. In early Spring they bloom all over town. I love all of the Kansas wildflowers that we have in our neck of the woods.

Just a few little vegetables. It is time to pick the banana peppers again, and the cherry tomato plant is weighed down with little green tomatoes. I can’t wait for them to be ready.

One day I wasn’t feeling too good after doing some yard work, and I took a nap. I woke up to new furniture for the side porch. I love it! I think I’m going to nap more often.

We have had a pretty Spring so far, and all too hot Summer days will be here too quickly.

I still hope to get a few more plants in before it gets too hot, but I really don’t think that I’m going to get that accomplished. I really need to plant some new flowers and some type of bushes in the front yard. I just need the kids to wake up before noon, so we can hit up my favorite nursery.

May’s Veggie Meals

I have a bunch of photos to share from May’s veggie meals. Some of them are vegan, and some of them are vegetarian, all of them were super tasty.

Sometimes I make meals out of whatever I have hanging out in the fridge. Burritos are a tasty way to use up leftovers.

I can’t get enough homemade sushi!

Lemon Pasta with veggies. I also had some tasty artichoke pesto on toast.

Homemade vegan crunchwraps, and plenty of chips and salsa.

Rice Noodles with Kimchi, and a tasty side of edamame.

I made more sushi for dinner.

I had a few leftover for lunch the next day.

We had a bunch of Cliantro in our garden. I decided to try and make homemade pico de gallo. Holy moly it was good! I ate it with tostadas, I ate it with chips, and I ate it with a spoon.

Vegan Tacos! Refried beans make a great substitute, so I can enjoy taco night with the family.

O.k., so I made a few loaves of homemade bread. I might have taken a nap while I was proofing the bread, so the loaves might have been over proofed just a bit. While they wern’t the prettiest loaves of bread, they did make some AMAZING grilled cheese sandwiches. This also might have been my breakfast…

Vegan burrito bowl for me.

Noodles with Veggies.

I finished off the rest of the homemade bread, and used a little more of the artichoke pesto hanging out in the fridge. I can also eat artichoke pesto with anything; toast, crackers, pasta, silverware…

I finally found some very lovely avocados. I like mine with Kosher Salt, a bit of fresh black pepper, and a few dashes of lemon juice. Seriously, I think I could eat avocados for every meal, snack, whatever, all day, every day.

As the weather is heating up, I only want to eat cold foods. Snack dinner is always a cool option. I enjoyed some petite carrots, marinated artichoke hearts, and one more of those very lovely avocados.

Well, I didn’t get my dream garden this year. One of these years I swear, it is going to happen. I only have a few plants growing off of the side porch. There is a patch of cilantro, that has already bloomed, so it’s probably done. I also have a big tomato plant, budding with green tomatoes. We have a little sweet banana pepper plant that has already produced some delicious peppers. This was my first pick of the season. Pretty small, but that tomato and pepper were fantastic.

We are well into June. I seem to live in the kitchen twenty-four hours a day. I hope to have some more photos up soon, but right now, I’ve got to go clean up the dishes from lunch.

Mondays…

Man, I used to love Mondays… The kids would be off to school, and my hubby would be busy at work, and I would have the house perfectly quiet. All to myself.

Today has been a very long, and very loud day. I’ve had a headache since Friday, and my stress levels are through the roof right now. Ugh, Mondays…
