Crafting Review: January
I’ve been crocheting and getting a little bit better at knitting. I miss having my big projects to crochet, but I have lots of little odds and ends going on.
Agnes has been requesting lots of crocheted accessories.
I think I made her three or four of these little earwarmers.
I also had a request for a crocheted Garnet scarf.
The yard that I used was very, very thin, so it took me a little bit of time to complete the project.
It turned out beautifully, and they loved the finished project.
One extra cold day, I worked on some different off-center grannysquares.
I also started a blanket for Thade. I hope he likes it.
I’ve been kintting this scarf for over a month.
It is going to be a gift for my brother. I just hope I get it done in time.
I actually finished knitting a headband/earwarmer for myself. It took me a bit, but I think it turned out pretty good. I still need to figure out that purl stitch though. Knit, I’m o.k. at, but the purl stitch has me stumped.
Work-ends
It’s Friday almost evening and I’m already exhausted…
The kids have been fighting since I picked them up from school. They are already bored, and arguing, and starving even though they have had two snacks.
This is going to be one of those weekends…
Is it bad that I look forward to Monday more than Saturday…
January’s Veggie Meals
I decided to stick with my veggies for a little bit more. I remained a vegetarian in January, and that makes thirteen months going strong. I made lots of yummy meals, and even tried out a few new recipes too.
I used the crock pot to make a giant batch of Chickpeas. Some of these chickpeas were made into homemade hummus, and some went into tasty burritos.
Whenever I make Chicken and Noodles for the family, I make a batch of Veggies and Noodles for me. I cook the noodles in vegetable stock, and add in whatever veggies I have on hand. Serve them along with mashed potatoes, and they are a yummy winter meal.
Homemade Breadsticks with Salad is one of my favorites.
I always keep a few types of pasta on hand in the pantry. I made a batch of Lemon Pasta with Broccoli, Cauliflower, and Green Beans. This is another great dish to use up vegetables that are hanging out in the fridge or freezer.
I’ve been on a noodle kick lately, and I wanted to try and make my own Ramen. This was an easy dish to make, and it was even vegan. My noodles turned out more Udon than Ramen.
The homemade Udon noodle soup was amazing!
I’ve been making a bunch of homemade pizzas.
I still can’t convince the kids to try the one with Broccoli.
Since the weather has been extra cold, I’ve been on a soup kick. This batch of Potato Soup turned out fantastic. I add in Cauliflower, Carrots, Cheese, Broccoli, Kale, and Corn to mine.
The soup freezes well too. It also is pretty darn delicious paired with a veggie Ruben sandwich.
Time to head back to the kitchen, I’ve got dinner to make.
January’s Tasty Treats
January was one of those months where I was in the kitchen around the clock, but I forgot to get pictures.
I’m looking for short-cuts in the kitchen. Mostly because I can’t keep up with the dishes, so I want to dirty-up less of them. I decided to test out a batch of Mini-Cinnamon Rolls, with Homemade Breadstick Dough.
And you know what… It worked out perfectly. The breadsticks were delicious, and the tiny cinnamon rolls were perfect for dessert.
I made some Chocolate Cupcakes. They were a request from the kiddos.
Thade always requests a Bread-cake for his birthday. I over-proof homemade dinner rolls, and bake them till they hold together. I stack them together, and hello bread-cake!
When it was Thade’s birthday, I made a homemade chocolate sheet cake. I also tested out a batch of homemade chocolate marshmallow icing. The cake was super moist, and the icing was sweet. I need to work on the icing a bit though, it wasn’t as fluffy as I wanted it to be. The kids loved it though.
It is finally February, and I hope to get the kitchen back in shape this month. We’ll see how it goes though, I’m still behind.
