Well today was going to be a relaxing-catch up around the house kind of day, and then rotavirus struck the house. All three kids were home from school today, and I’m not feeling too great either. Ugh, it’s going to be a long weekend…

I decided to change the title from crochet review to crafting review, since I’m teaching myself to knit. Maybe I’ll break out the sewing machine and add that into the mix too.
The last few winters I’ve been wanting to learn how to knit. I finally decided December was the month to try.
I grabbed some books from the library, and watched a few videos on youtube. After many tries I got the hang of the long tail cast on.
Let’s just say that at first I wasn’t so sure about knitting. There seemed to be more casting on and taking apart than actual knitting being done.
I tried out several different sizes of needles, and many different types of yarn. After about three weeks I finally started to see some progress.
I haven’t finished a project yet, but I am doing a bit better at knitting. Don’t ask me about purling though, I still don’t have the hang of it.
With the cold temps, I crocheted on lots of little projects here and there.
I’m still using up some of my scrap yarn, I started working on a multi-stitch blanket. There isn’t a pattern to this blanket, just lots of practice on different stitches.
Speaking of scrap yarn…
I finished up the scrappy blanket.
Let me tell you a bit about this blanket. I used a size 8 hook, and half-double crocheted the entire thing. It is extra warm, and this blanket has become the most coveted blanket in the house. All of the kids are asking for one that is just for them. Time to save up some more scraps.
Lastly I made a blanket for Lula. She prefers to be outdoors, but sometimes she likes to sneak in for just a bit.
I chose lots of different shades of purple, plum, and pink.
I went with the J size hook (me favorite) and stuck with the half-double crochet stitch.
I worked on it off and on for about two days, and finished it up before the weather got too cool. James and the kiddos made a little outdoor hutch for Lula, and the blanket fit nicely in it.
Now it is January, and I don’t have any big projects going on… I kinda miss it.
December was the last month of my vegetarian 2015, and I finished out the year successfully. I also made some really delicious dishes.
Veggie Lo Mien is one of my go-to dishes when we are ordering take-out. I made a pretty delicious batch of it at home too.
We have a bunch of food allergies in our household. I’m trying out new recipes and snacks for the family. This batch of Homemade Pretzels, was vegan, and perfect.
I kept the dishes simple for Christmas, and we had lots of yummy leftovers. I tried my hand at making restaurant style Queso, and it was pretty close. Besides the queso I had a veggie double decker with Mexican rice and cheese. So tasty!
I made a Veggie Tater-tot casserole for one. I added in frozen corn, and plenty of broccoli. It was delicious!
My last meal of the year. Lemon Pasta with Roasted Veggies, and Steak Fries. This meal was absolutely delicious, and filling even without the meat.
Well, we are six days into the new year, and I’ve stuck with my vegetarianism. The kiddos keep hoping that I’m going to break down and get some Arby’s.
Today the kids went back to school, and I took a much needed break. I went to the store first, since we were out of everything, and then I came home and took a break. I’m planning on taking it easy tomorrow too, and then finally getting back to it on Thursday.
This morning it was tough getting everyone out of the house. The freezing cold weather has arrived, and not one of us wanted to get out in it. The boys wern’t happy about going to school at all, but Agnes was a little happy about it.
I’m hoping that we can call it an early evening. I’ve got a yucky migraine on the way, and I think it is time to crash out for a bit.
Today is the last day of Christmas break, and I’m feeling a little guilty. Guilty, why? I’m looking forward to tomorrow!
The house has been completely trashed for the last three weeks, and the kids have eaten everything in sight. Also the kitchen is a MESS!!! I really need a few days where I can get focused and get the house back in order.
The tiny kids have been fighting like crazy too. They started before Christmas break began, and throughout the break they have been at it non-stop. It is time for all of the kiddos to get back on schedule and back to school.
Even Miss Mia is stressed!
