Finished Project: Crazy-grannysquare Throw

I started this project in April. I thought a crazy throw would be great around the house. I love making granny-squares, and I wanted a project that I could work on a little at a time.

I started off by making granny-squares in three, six, and nine rounds. All different colors too.

Once I liked the look of it, I stitched it together. The first complete square became the pattern for the rest of the squares to come.

This quick project is also a great way to use up odds and ends of yarn.

The crochet work went quickly. Before I knew it, I had a stack of four completed squares.

Then I kept going…

And I kept crocheting squares until I had nine completed squares.

It was time to finish this throw.

That involved a lot of stitching, and one messy craft table.

Two days of stitching a little here and there, and I was done.

This little throw makes a big bold statement in the color department.

It looks cute draped over a chair (just waiting for a rainy day).

It makes a pretty great bedspread too.

This was a fun project, and fairly quick to make too. I loved the end result, and those crazy granny-squares!

Home Cooking: Autumn in Summer

I do enjoy Summer. I like the lazy days, and the laid back meals. Sometimes I miss the tasty Autumnal meals though. I decided to bring back an Autumn favorite right smack dab in the middle of Summer.

What was on the menu?

Homemade Chicken and Noodles, with real Mashed Potatoes, Fresh Butter Rolls,  and Pumpkin Pie for dessert.

While the pie was cooling. I rolled out a big batch of Egg Noodles. It is easy to make pasta from scratch, it just takes a little bit of extra time. I’ve tried out several recipes for noodles, but my favorite is the classic Betty Crocker (in the red cookbook) recipe. I think it is the tastiest, and I always have everything on hand.

Once the big kitty smells chicken, he heads to the kitchen. Of course I give him a bit with broth. I love how he sticks both paws in the plate, so the plate doesn’t get away from him.

A full stove-top makes me extra happy.

I like to use the bread maker to start my Butter Roll dough. These are always Thade’s favorite.

Last but not least is Dylan’s favorite, Pumpkin Pie. My little guy loves it, and it is a great reminder of comforting Autumn dishes that are just around the corner.

Quick Crochet: Round Cushions

I was browsing home goods, and looking for throw pillows for the Summer daybed. I didn’t find exactly what I was looking for, and I really wasn’t too happy with the price for throw pillows either. I had a bit of extra fabric on hand, and I decided to make some of my own.

I didn’t have a pattern for a round cushion, so I just kept crocheting around, and around until I liked size and the look of it.

I made two rounds, and crocheted the rounds together. I left a bit of space to slip in fabric to stuff.

I also made one in Red.

I made a simple round pillow form out of re-purposed  fabric. I slipped the form into the crocheted cover, and stuffed it. Then a simple whip stitch to close the form, and a little bit more crochet around the edge to finish off the pillow.

I think my second try turned out a little bit neater than the first attempt.

They turned out adorable, and fit the bed perfectly!

I started a yellow one last night for Agnes, and Dylan has requested a green one as well. I think I’ll make a few more for our bedroom too. Luckily they are quick to crochet. Each round took me about an evening to make. I’m starting to love quick and easy projects. This one saved some money on the decorating budget too.

June’s Favorite Photos

This post is a little late this month… It has been a fun filled, busy July already. I have lots of photos to share from the month of June, and lots more on the way from July.

Thade is still dodging the camera.

I caught him though, when he lost another tooth.

Dylan was all smiles, he loves a picnic outdoors.

He has been catching up on his Summer reading.

Miss Agnes loves the big kitty.

Agnes was happy at the Good ‘Ol Days parade.

All three kiddos are loving the trampoline. They enjoy the pretty outdoors when it isn’t too hot.

The tiny ones were snuggly and cute on the new Summer bed.

We had fun at the Good ‘Ol Days. We left just before it started to rain.

We also visited Redbud Nurseries. We took lots of photos, and came home with lots of plants too.

How I love some pretty KS skies. Daytime, or nighttime.

The Red Lilies bloomed, finally.

Miss Mia pup is happy to have everyone home to play with.

The big kitty not so much.

He just wants to nap.
