Home Sewing: Slip Covers

We’ve been redecorating our bedroom with new paint and curtains. I would like to find some new bedding to finish off the room too.

I flipped our quilt, and found a cotton blanket for $2.00 at a yard sale. I just needed to slipcover the throw pillows, and complete the look.

I have lots of odds and ends in my fabric stash. I found enough white fabric to make two small slipcovers. I sewed three sides of a rectangle, and then left one side open to switch them out if I change my mind.

It was a quick project to sew, and the slipcovers added a nice touch to the “new” bedding too.

Rained-Out

Today I’ve got one kiddo under the weather, and the weather is going to be rainy all day. We are staying in, planning a Marvel movie marathon, and I’m catching up on housework. I see lots of dishes and icky laundry in my future.

Finished Project: Thade’s Afghan

I think this one took me twelve or thirteen weeks. This has been one of my largest crochet projects so far. Thade is a big fan of Doctor Who. I wanted to make an afghan inspired by the 4th Doctor’s famous scarf. I picked up a lot of yarn in various colors and got to work.

I started this project off at Hobby Lobby. I love that store, and they had lots of yarn to choose from.

I worked on the afghan throughout the Winter.

I carried it all around the house, and worked on it during the evenings.

It was a warm and snuggly project.

I measured it out to see if it would fit Thade’s bed. It was close, but it just needed a few more rows.

I set my mind to finishing the project before the boys were out of school.

I finished the afghan, and surprised Thade with it. He loved it, and I really like the finished product too. This one did take a long time to complete, I lost count on just how many skeins of yarn I used.

I did end up with a few leftovers for the next project.
