A Little More Decorating

I think I’m almost finished decorating the indoors. I still haven’t started on the outdoors.

I’ve got the ornaments up on the tree.

I took down the little curtains in the foyer. I put up stockings instead.

I love the Christmas lights at night, they are so pretty.

Shopping Local

I’m not a black Friday shopper, and I don’t know if I really like the idea of cyber week. I do really enjoy small business Saturday. I like to go out to a few local favorite shops, find some great items, and catch up with the owners too. This year James had to work open to close on small business Saturday, so I went out the night before Thanksgiving.

I went to two of my favorite shops, and I found myself a few goodies.

First I visited Trader Dave’s Antiques and More. I love this store, it is full of antiques and unique items. I always find something when I visit here.

This time around I found this cute Pyrex casserole dish hiding on a shelf. I have been watching a beautiful blue patchwork quilt too. It is on my Christmas wish list.

After Trader Dave’s, I headed over a few blocks to visit The Treasure Hunt Flea Market.

The Treasure Hunt has quickly become my favorite shop to visit. It is such a fun place, and there are antiques galore. The Treasure Hunt also has a large furniture room that has beautiful antiques, and amazing quilts too. I love it!

This time around I picked up a cute Pyrex butter dish. It matches a casserole dish in my collection.

I also found a little Pyrex bowl, and a green Pyrex casserole dish too. I used them both on Thanksgiving. My vintage collection is growing one piece at a time, and I’m happily shopping locally too.

So what about you… Do you have a favorite local shop that is unique to your town?

Let’s Get Started

Monday the boys were back to school, and James was still home on vacation. He suggested that we start cleaning out the scary closet, and decorate for Christmas. At first I didn’t feel like cleaning, but I was glad that we did. We cleaned out a lot of clutter, and we’ve got the house a little bit closer to being ready for Christmas.

The kitty wanted to help too. Every year he eats one of the wreaths, and takes out the Christmas tree. He is a bit of a stinker when it comes to decorating.

We moved the Christmas tree to a different spot in the foyer.

Agnes was happy to see the star up on the tree.

She likes the lights too.

She loves this little Santa. She carried it around all day.

We are off to a pretty good start so far.

I’m waiting for the weather to warm up just a bit, so I can decorate outdoors too.

New Glasses

Well, one more of us is in need of some help in the eye care department.

Thade got his new glasses last night, and he loves them. I think he looks adorable too. Dylan is already asking when he can get glasses too.

Congrats, little man.

Kitchen Updates

Usually I decorate the day after Thanksgiving… This year we started painting the kitchen walls. The kitchen was a mess after Thanksgiving, so I thought it sounded like a good idea.

The kitchen was in need of some serious work. We had wallpaper to remove, repairs to make, lots of caulking to do, and then we needed to prime the walls too. It has been an ongoing project.

I painted the new pantry, and started taping off all of the woodwork. James worked on the ceiling, and repairs. Then we got started on the fun stuff.

We got the aqua paint up on the walls. I am seriously in love with this color. It is Mariner from Sherwin Williams, and it has quickly become my favorite color. The kitchen still has a bit of work to be done, but we are off to a great start.
