Picture Day and Good Intentions

Last night I formulated a plan that on Friday morning I was going to get up early, and get a few things done around the house while the kids were asleep, and try to squeeze in a little “me time” as well. Everything seemed to be going as planned, Dylan was up and fed at 5:30 a.m., and then I decided o.k. I’m going to stay awake too. After nursing Dylan I placed him in his comfy crib, and everything went wrong from there. Little Dylan (who usually sleeps in till 7:30 a.m.) decided that today he was going to get up too. He screamed and cried, and demanded to be picked up and carried around. I gathered up the grumpy guy and we went downstairs to make James breakfast and start some coffee for me.

I got James his super yummy breakfast, and he was off to work at 6:30 a.m. By that time I was exhausted, and my back was killing me. Dylan is not an easy child to hold, he squirms, and kicks, and really likes to hit mom in the face, and mom isn’t too cheerful at 6:30 a.m., nor does she like having all of her hair pulled out by an eight month old. I gave up and finally got Dylan back to sleep, and I went back to sleep too. I seem to be a little more cheerful with a bit more rest and a little more coffee 😉

Today is also Christmas Picture Day, and I’m already worried. Last year’s Christmas photo session was a mess. I was preggers, and Thade was not happy, at all. He did not want to smile, sit on the table, give up his blanket, it was such a rough day. The photographer was so nice, and she was very patient, so I’ve requested her again this year.

Last year’s pictures took forever, but she was one determined photographer. After many attempts she finally snapped one almost smiling, not sitting up straight, and clutching his blanket for dear life picture, and we called it good. I hope things go a little smoother this year, but I’m not getting my hopes up.

Wish me luck, I have a feeling this is going to be a really long day 😉

Breakfast

I have trouble finding time to make breakfast for myself. I’ll make a Waffle House worthy meal for by hubby on the weekends (he is up and out the door early on weekdays), and the kiddos have a yummy breakfast to start the day everyday, even the cats wake up to a full bowl of kitty food, some how Nico gets neglected in the morning. Most days I’m a grab a cup of coffee and call it good kinda girl 😉  but I end up starving and a little grumpy by 10:00 a.m. Now I’m searching the Internet for a few breakfast recipes to make ahead and stick in the freezer. Then I have no excuse not to stop for breakfast.

I love to make Banana Muffins, and even my hubby likes these. They freeze very well, and I like to double the batch and make 3 mini loaves of Banana Bread (you just have to add about 10-15 minutes extra baking time). I’m also going to check out this recipe for Oatmeal Muffins, they sound pretty tasty to me. The Oatmeal Muffin recipe calls for Skim Milk, but I am going to use 2% I always have that on hand.

I’m getting pretty good at making Baking Powder Biscuits (I use the Betty Crocker recipe), I read in the cook book that you can add cooked bulk sausage into the biscuit dough to bake quick and easy breakfast sandwiches. I just might have to try this one out too, I wonder if they freeze well?

What grab and go breakfasts do you like to make? Do you have any family favorites? Feel free to share any tasty recipes that you have 🙂

New Hair-Cut

Here is my little mop-top before his hair-cut today. The first picture is him telling me that he really doesn’t want his hair-cut

And here is the after, so much better 😉 Thade wasn’t too happy about getting a hair-cut, but after I was finally finished he really liked his new hair. He also said that it was time for him to cut my hair, because my hair was fluffy. I don’t think I quite trust Thade with the clippers 😉

Hair-Cut Day

Today is a day that Thade has not been too excited about, it is time to give him a hair-cut. He is definitely due for one, and he had pictures on Friday, so I want him to look his best. After his first hair-cut at an actual salon went not so well, I went out and invested in an at home hair-cutting system. The clippers have paid off ten fold, and Thade isn’t quite as scared, so it makes for a much quieter hair-cut too.

I hope it goes well, and I hope the little guy isn’t too grumpy with me 😉
