Winter Worries

Early morning I usually flip on the news and see what is going on in the world, and I don’t know if I can stomach that task any more. This morning I was flipping through the channels and stopped on CNBC. I started reading the scrolling headlines, and one disturbing headline caught my eye. Projected: Winter home heating costs to rise an average of 10%! Nico’s stress level is now at a 12 out of 10.

Last year we spent our first Winter in our new home, and heating costs were astronomical. I can’t imagine what they will be like this Winter, or even how to budget for the increase. I’ve been stressing about Winter utility costs since about mid-Summer. Here’s hoping for a mild Winter.

What steps are you taking to winterize your home? How do you keep your energy costs bearable?

  1. We keep the house at 18C during the winter, and I tell everyone to just quit complaining and put on a sweater LOL…although I can’t do that this winter with a new babe in the house. Gramma knits everyone funky socks to wear to bed at night, that helps too.

That’s all I can tell you…looks like you and I will be in the same boat this winter. Good luck to us both!

  2. Thanks Susan, good luck to you too. We are both going to be busy keeping the little ones warm and the high heating costs down 😉 Thanks for the funky sock suggestion, great idea.

James and I were thinking about investing in some space heaters for the upstairs, so we could turn down the thermostat way down at night. I’ve been Winterizing the house as best as I can, and I’m going to start sewing some heavy duty curtains for the windows. If only Dylan would let me sew 🙂
