We made it through the entire month of March without picking up any take-out, and to celebrate we decided that April 1st we would have lunch and dinner out. Thade was really excited, and I think James was too. Thade had a plan to pick-up McDonald’s for lunch, and James wanted Wendy’s, I really didn’t want anything, my stomach is not cooperating with me at all.
We decided that after Thade got out of school, we would swing by and pick-up Dad, and then we were off to go and get some lunch. We first drove to Wendy’s to get James favorite Spicy Chicken, and then to McDonald’s for Happy Meals for the kiddos and I would attempt chicken nuggets and fries.
We made it home with our meals in hand, and I was taking off Dylan’s shoes when I heard Thade scream “what the heck! They forgot my toy!!!” James looked into Thade’s Happy Meal sack, and yep there was no toy to be found. “Why did Dylan get a toy, and I didn’t!” Thade was outraged. So we haven’t even taken a bite, and Thade is already hating McDonald’s. Dylan was happy with the chicken nuggets though, and I don’t think he really cared about the toy.
After the toy crisis was over James and I started in on our meals and it wasn’t too good… His chicken didn’t taste like chicken, and the fries tasted like cardboard, mine the same way. Cold chicken nuggets, and cardboard fries. What happened to the yummy salty fries that I had a month ago, had our taste buds really changed that much?!?
James didn’t finish his meal, so I asked him what he wanted to pick up for dinner… He said ” after this, can you just cook instead?” I was really surprised to hear him say that, we had all been looking forward to the meal out, but we were all a little disappointed in the end.
We decided that we’ll pick-up take out every once in a while, but we aren’t going out of our way to go and get it. I’ll be keeping the kitchen well stocked with our favorites, and making as many meals as I can at home.
Poor Thade!
Our McD’s is the absolute worst with take out orders. They always forget something, so I hold up the drive-thru line and check every single thing. I always find something missing or a wrong item. We got rubbery chicken sandwiches the last 2 visits, so we haven’t been back for awhile. Instead of fast food takeout, I like to get the store made rotisserie chicken and add some goodies for an easy meal when I don’t want to cook. The leftovrs are good for burritos or stir fry the next day, too. It looks like you have totallly spoiled your hubs with all that good home cooking!
Thanks Mimi! Oh no, I’m sorry you have a wonky McDonald’s too. Before we started the no take-out challenge, every time I went to McDonald’s my order would get messed up. Thade was really mad when his toy was forgotten though.
Your rotisserie chicken sounds so good, I’ll have to give it a try. I’m always looking for an easy meal that everyone will enjoy 🙂
Thanks Nana! Thade was so mad, and I really wasn’t too excited about fast food either. I’m really missing places that we don’t have, maybe I just need to get out of town a bit 😉
I love how Thade’s Nana said his happy meal wasn’t too happy. that was cute. poor kid!! I would be mad too! That was impressive of James wanting your homemade cooking, but i doubt you feel like cooking up much right now. My first trimester I needed to stay away from food prep.
Thought of you last night, I was cruizin ETSY. I am in love with all the homemade stuff on there!! Could really become an ETSY addict. smile.. Have a great weekend!
Thanks Heather! Thade was really bummed, and mad at McDonald’s 😉 Yeah, I really need a break from the kitchen, my tummy is not too happy this time around. The boy’s were really good about taking the March challenge, but I’m pretty sure they think I’m completely crazy!
I love handmade items too! They are the best 🙂 We have a big festival coming up in June, and there are lots of booths to check out great handmade items, every year I think I want to set up a booth, but then I chicken out…
