Staying in

Well like most of the world we are staying in… So far our county is covid-19 free, but everything around us is starting to close. The kids are on Spring Break this week, and the school district is holding a meeting on the 18th to discuss what’s next.

I’m a little nervous about the possibility of school closures, but the kids are on board. We’ll see what Wednesday brings.

So far we are good on supplies. Whenever it is flu season I try to keep extra paper goods on hand, so I wasn’t too surprised by the run on the grocery store. I am a little worried about the restaurants starting to close, my kiddos love take-out, and I’m partial to a break from the kitchen.

We’ll sit tight though, and hope that everyone stays safe and healthy. How are you spending your extra time at home?

March is the new December

Honestly ever since last December happened, I have had way too much going on… I really don’t like it either.

I am hoping that Agnes and I are finally over this awful flu bug, and just in time to cover hospitality for this weekend’s Forensics Tournament at Thade’s school. I’ll be baking and cooking, and then hosting tomorrow, and all day Saturday too.

Next week is three day of of parent-teacher conferences, and I’m school sponsor for Agnes’ school on an upcoming class trip. Friday school is out, and then Spring Break begins.

After Spring Break, Dylan turns 13!!!! And poof, another month is done.

A Week Later

A week ago I turned forty, and I had a plan in mind to do a blog relaunch and get back to posting… I promptly caught influenza b, and I’ve been sick for a solid week. This is why I don’t make plans.

December is the new May

Whenever May rolls around it is always the shortest month of the year, and the busiest too. This year, December has been the new May. With only three days left before Christmas break, I am not ready for the noise, messes, and fighting that comes along with a teen and two tweens…

Also, Agnes has been sick. She missed three days of school last week, and I didn’t get any gifts together or wrapped for Christmas. I think I tell myself every year that I should really start in October, before flu season wreaks havoc on Kansas.

Three days before Agnes was sick, I got a horrible migraine… A stress one, no less. It hit me after shopping for a birthday present for Dylan’s friend, and it wiped me out for a good three days.

We have also had at least two to three different things on the calendar for the very short twelve and a half days that the kids are in school this month. There’s debate, choir, basketball meetings, haircuts, doctor’s appointments, and ensemble practices too. And debate tournaments, and I forgot to pick up my prescription for my contacts at least three weeks ago.

Yeah, I’m not ready…

Keeping It Together

I’m trying to keep it together this week. The kids are already out of school for Thanksgiving break, and the house is too noisy for my anxious brain. I’m trying to sneak in a bit of quiet whenever I can.

This year I started early on my Thanksgiving to do list. I planned the menu early, and planned a few shopping trips for the meal too. I started cooking yesterday, and finished up the baking today. I’ll be up early tomorrow to have lunch on the table by noon.

This year we set some parameters for the meal as well… I haven’t been able to host the last few years, the stress and anxiety was too much for me. This year we are hosting the meal only, all family, and just for three hours. I’ve been doing better by delegating responsibilities and household tasks, and I’ve been verbal about just how I am feeling, and what I don’t want to talk about (Christmas and shopping). I know it sounds a bit snobbish, but it really has helped my mental state.

I’m hoping tomorrow goes well. I hope I can keep it together for the day. I’m just going to do as well as I can.
