Me and the Leaves

This Fall I’m trying to do a better job at keeping up with the yard. We have 2 large trees that love to throw their big leaves all over the place, so I have made it my mission to get out there and rake up those leaves every weekend.

I was doing pretty good about the extra chore, and I have been raking 2 bags a week. This last weekend the weather was perfect, and the kids were cooperating and playing happily outside while I raked. I finished the task in record time, and had the leaves all bagged up before the weather turned cold and rainy. I was pretty proud of my yard work accomplishment.

Later that night I felt a sharp pain in my leg, weird. I took a look, and evidently I raked up some little Spider’s home, because he left me a bite to show me just how mad he was at me for doing so. Great… So let’s just say that this bite swelled up to about the size of a half dollar, and still stings like crazy, so not cool.

After last night’s rains, the leaves are all back this morning. If the weather improves by the weekend, I’ll make sure and rake a little more cautiously, I do sincerely apologize for raking up the spider’s home.

Finally Fall

Well we had to look around just a bit, but we finally found some pretty Fall Leaves. I love the bright red Maple leaves on the trees downtown. They are just starting to change to their beautiful Autumn colors.

The rain is back today, and I’m hoping that the cooler weather will bring along even prettier leaves.

Are your leaves starting to change to their pretty Fall colors too?

Saving on Pet Supplies

On my weekly grocery list there are always two things that I have to pick up for the kitties.

Kitty Litter and Cat Food, they are kitty necessities, but I have to say that I am fed up with the rising prices on these items. I’ve started to shop around in a few different places for the best deal for my kitty supplies.

First off Kitty Litter, if you have kitties you have to have this one. I like to purchase Kitty Litter at Dollar General, they carry an Earth-friendly brand for only $1.00! One bag will usually last about a week, and you can’t beat the price

Then there is Cat Food, every week it seems that the price goes up and up,  and I spend 15 minutes comparing brand to brand and bag to bag, to find the best deal . A few weeks ago my hubby spotted a great sale on 18-20 pound cat food at Tractor Supply Company. I had never shopped there before, so I thought I would check out the store. The brand that I had planned on purchasing had already sold out, but a sales associate told me to give their brand a try. I picked up a 20 pound bag for $10.49! It was a great deal, and after I did the math, I saved $15.37 by purchasing the cat food in bulk. The kitties really liked the food too.

Tractor Supply Company also carries Kitty Litter and last weekend I took my Mom to shop their sale. Their brand of Paws ‘n Claws kitty litter was on sale, so we stocked up. Their 25 lb bags were on sale for 2 for $4.00! Only three were left when we made it to the store, so we picked them up. I’m all stocked up for the Fall, or for any kitty litter emergencies.

How do you keep costs down when it comes to pet supplies?

Christmas in October

Well I guess it is never too early to start decorating for Christmas… Yep, that’s right, you are looking at Christmas lights, in October! When I took Thade to school this morning, I noticed that most of the Christmas lights are already on downtown, hmmm maybe they are starting just a little bit too early this season, the leaves have barely changed. Thade thought it was pretty funny though.

My Cats ate My Garden

One of my hopes for gardening was to harvest my seeds, and use them to help plant next year’s garden. It would get me one small step closer towards greener sustainability. I had one Cucumber left, and a handful of Green Beans so I seeded the veggies and got the seeds ready to dry.

I even had a nice sunny window to place the seeds in. They needed to dry for a week, so I marked the paper towel with the date when they should be ready. I placed them in the window, and hoped for the best.

I don’t even think they were in the window for ten minutes, before my kitties found them and ate most of my organic sustainable garden. I was a little grumpy, but I bet the kitties enjoyed the tasty organic treat.

Oh well, so much for next year’s sustainable garden…
