I have lots of little plants all around the house. They are growing well, and I love the fresh greens all around my home.
I’d like to invest in a few more plants for the upstairs floor too. I think our room needs a plant or two.
Another Project In The Works
This week the weather has been way too hot. We’ve been indoors most of the time, and I’m keeping busy crocheting. I’ve been edging granny-squares, but I wanted to try my hand at something new.
I kept a hexagon pattern from yarn that I had purchased way back in January. I read through the pattern a few times, and I decided to give it a try.
Well my very first hexagon ended up being a pentagon. I kept at it though, and the next two turned out just right.
The hexagons take about the same amount of time to crochet as a granny-square does.
I finished up ten of them, and laid them out in different patterns. I see another afghan in the works.
I made another ten hexagons yesterday, and I’ve got the pattern memorized. They are fun to make, and a great way to use up scrap yarn.
I know it is July, but I’m already thinking of making homemade gifts for Christmas. I think this hexagon afghan would make a nice gift for my Mom. Time to get back to the craft table, and get back to work.
Homemade Laundry Powder: Second Batch
Well the first batch of homemade laundry powder lasted us just about two weeks. Like I said, I do a lot of laundry in this house. Yesterday we were just about out, so I decided it was time to make one more batch. This time I changed the recipe a bit, and tried a friend’s suggestion too.
I started off by microwaving the laundry soap. I placed the soap on a paper plate, and started it off for a minute. Then I let it go a minute more. I let the soap rest before I started grating it.
The microwaved soap grated well, but holy moly my kitchen was fragrant. I aired out the microwave during the night, and it is still soap scented this morning. The microwaved soap is a bit warm too, so be careful. Also if you have a few bits that didn’t microwave well the first time, just pop them back in the microwave for a few more seconds.
This batch I used one bar of grated laundry soap, one cup of baking soda, one cup of borax, and one cup of super washing powder. I mixed it all together, and stored it in a plastic container.
The consistency was just right. I washed two loads of laundry in the new scent, and I really liked it. The savings are great too. I’m making laundry detergent for around $2.00 a month instead of spending $10.00. Not too bad in the savings department.

The Great Indoors
We’ve hit that part of Summer where the weather turns a little too warm. It is warm early in the morning, really hot during the day, and the heat continues well into the night. The humidity is crazy too, oh Kansas…
When the weather is too warm out, we head for the great indoors.
We’ll work on chores, catch up on laundry, and dishes too.
We’ll catch up on some Summer reading too. How I would love to sneak in a nap during the all too hot afternoon.
There will be toys on the floor,
and many messes upstairs too.
I look forward to days like this though. I’m a bit of a homebody anyway.
So we’ll hang out, play video games, watch Cartoon Network, and hide from the heat. Sounds like a pretty good Friday to me.
