More Recalls

We hadn’t planned on purchasing the Aqua Dots kit ever. James and I took one look at the toy and said, “wow those look way too edible, and not safe for kids”. Now there is a massive recall on the Aqua Dots toy, due to children consuming them and becoming unconscious after swallowing them. It is very scary, I’m glad to see those pulled from the shelves.

The next item, I had thought maybe for Dylan’s birthday, but not now. Thade had spotted the Laugh & Learn Kitchen in a magazine, and we both thought that Dylan might like it. I put it on the maybe list, and James saw the recall on Tuesday. The Laugh & Learn Kitchen is being recalled due to Choking Hazards, so it is staying off of my shopping list.

All of these recalls really have me worried about Christmas gifts this season, and Birthday gifts coming soon. I’m trying (really hard) not to harp on the Grandmas about what they can and can not buy, but everyday there is another recall. I worry if the recalled item is gift-wrapped and on its way to my house. I’m one stressed out Mommy this holiday season. I want my kids to have a happy Christmas, I just don’t want it filled with choking hazards and toys with lead paint.

How are the recent toy recalls affecting your holiday shopping? What about your kids wish lists?  Are you asking for other items instead of toys?

  1. On one hand, my kids are older and don’t stick things in their mouths anymore…but any toys that my big kids get will be toys that poor Sammy will be playing with in a few years. So sad…when will all these recalls end?

  2. Thanks Susan. I’m in the same boat with my kids, my oldest is almost four, and is really good about his toys, but the little guy is only 7 months so he wants to put everything in his mouth.

I agree, when will the recalls end? It seems like everyday there is something else recalled. I’m getting to the point that I don’t want to even turn on the news anymore.
