Long Day, Long Night

Yesterday was Dylan’s check-up and he did fairly well, it was a really long day for everybody.  The appointment was also a little sad for me, our favorite physician is leaving the hospital. She is moving to a new family practice in Washington. We will miss her dearly. Our boy’s love her too, so it is going to be hard to switch to a new Doctor.

The weather wasn’t cooperating at all yesterday. We had tornado watches until 6:00 p.m., and severe thunder storms all day that returned at night. I started getting the boys ready at 3:30 p.m. to stay ahead of an oncoming storm. It took me 20 minutes to get everything together, and the kids loaded into the car. Just as we pulled into the parking lot, it started to pour. Dylan is not a fan of the rain, and Thade didn’t want to get out of the car. I gathered my strength, and told Thade it was going to be fun running in the rain. I was carrying Dylan in the (heavy) car seat, and holding on to Thade’s hand, and we ran as quickly as his toddler feet would let us.

We checked in and our appointment was at 4:00 p.m., we had just enough time to go and play with the blocks. An hour later (and still raining) Thade was getting a little restless and tired of playing, so we moved a little closer to the Doctor’s office. Fifteen minutes later, we were still sitting and waiting. At that point Thade had waited long enough. Finally our name was called, and we were off to see the Doctor.

Dylan was instantly upset as he had to be weighed, and measured, and Thade was ready to go home. I was getting a little worried about the 4 shots that were coming, I finally had Dylan calmed down. The Doctor came in and Thade was all smiles, and gave her big hugs, Dylan screamed the entire time.  The nurse was coming in soon with the shots, so I gave Thade a Dum-Dum Pop so he would sit quietly while I helped hold Dylan for the shots. Thade to my surprise wasn’t too upset about it, he was a little worried that Dylan was crying, but releived that he wasn’t the one getting the shots.

Appointment over, and we were off to pick up an item from the pharmacy. Small problem though, the severe storm had moved in. It was pouring outside, the wind was howling, the thunder was booming, and I have to get 2 kids in the car in the storm. The Pharmacist saw the baby in the car seat and asked where I had parked. Oh yes I was about a block from the entrance. She volunteered to watch the boys while I ran out in the rain, got the car and parked under the covered entrance. She had kids too, and has had to make the mad dash in the rain too many times. I was so thankful for her kindness, and  got the boys in to the car safe and not too drenched.

The weather was so bad as we were driving home, I called my hubby from the parking lot to pick up dinner. A few of the roads were already collecting a lot of water, and the large lightning strikes were worrying Thade. I drove carefully, and we pulled on to our street. One more run through the rain and we were in the door. I was exhausted, Thade was grumpy, and Dylan was ready to nurse again. Thank goodness my hubby brought home dinner.  I hope that the weather cooperates at the next visit 😉

  1. Thanks so much Kate. Things are going better today. Dylan did better with his shots this time. My oldest keeps saying, “what a long day”, I must have said that a few times yesterday 😉
