I lost 16 hours

Well I’m finally to that point where I have to do something about my migraines. Yesterday I had one of the worst migraines that I have ever had, and it lasted a good sixteen hours. I was sick all day, and I know that something has to be done. I’m starting a headache journal to track my migraines, and I hope it will give my  Doctor a little more information too.

I’m also researching birth control options, because I think that the added hormones might be part of the problem. I just hope that I can find something that works, because I don’t think that a Brain Transplant is an option…

  1. Migraines are so hard. I’m to the point where I “just”
have bad headaches (used to have frequent migraines) but even those are not fun. Most prescriptions I tried either did not work or caused me to have worse rebound headaches. Besides the whole strategy of quiet and a dark cool room I also regularly take anti-inflammatorys, and extra strength tylenol boosted by caffeine. When that stops working I do a 10 day course of prednisone but I rarely have to do that anymore. It works for me ( most of the time) but I’m kinda odd 🙂
Sleeping in is a trigger for me but I have not identified any others.

I have tried quite a few prescriptions for it but they never helped. I have not tried any of the newer meds. Good luck and take care of yourself!!

  2. Yuk, that sounds horrible 🙁 . Hope you find a med that works for you…headaches like that must be awful to live with.

  3. I’ve had a migraine every single day since we got back from our Disneyland vacation.
I wake up with one, and feel miserable! I feel nauseated from the pain, MISERY!!
I hope that you feel better soon.

  4. Hi Nico!Sorry about your headaches. I did the headache journal too.

Italian foods, onions, aged cheeses, garlic, caffeine and the smell of cigarette smoke are triggers for me. Stress and little sleep too.

Then we looked into the hormone thing. The week before my cycle starts I start with the migraines. I use a hormone patch through those times called Vivell. When I feel one coming on I use Migrainal spray or Relpax 20mg. It seems to help, but I have one right now……due to a combination of all of the above.

Hormones are big triggers of migraines though…….check with your OB/GYN……

Blessings and I will be praying for you!

  5. Thanks Maggie! I’m so sorry that you are a migraine sufferer too, they are so rough. Thanks for the great information too, I really appreciate it. I’m at that point where I need to do something about mine, the migraines seem to be getting worse every month. Stress is a big trigger of mine, but I don’t think that I’ll be getting rid of stress anytime too soon 😉 Thanks again, and sending bug hugs to you!

  6. Thanks Susan! The migraines run in the family, so I know a bit of it is hereditary, and there isn’t much that I can do about my genes, but I want to find something that can help. I hope that the journal will give my doctor a little more information, and maybe get to a treatment. Thanks for the well wishes, and sending big hugs your way 🙂

  7. Thanks Mimi! Oh no, I hope that you get well soon! Migraines + nausea = misery indeed. I’ve been pretty happy with Walgreens Migraine Relief caplets, if I can catch my headache early enough they help a lot. Wishing you well, and sending big hugs your way 🙂

  8. Thanks Marva! I really appreciate all of the information, and I’m so sorry that you get awful migraines too. I hope that the headache journal will help, and I should start tracking what I eat along with the headaches, to see if there is a connection. I hope that my Doctor can find a treatment that will help out. Thanks again for the well wishes, and sending big hugs your way!

  9. Thanks Ellie! This has been quite a week, but the migraines have been downgraded to annoying headache. I’m still planning on checking with my Doctor to see what can be done about these migraines. Thanks again for the well wishes, and sending big hugs your way!
