Did anybody watch the Discovery Health Channel show called The Truth About Food last night? It was titled How to Feed Your Kids, and it was all about getting your picky eaters to eat their fruits and veggies. I only got to watch half of it because it was bath time. In that all to short half an hour, I learned a few new tactics to try when it comes to dinner time.
The show featured food experiments to get kids to eat. One of my favorites was the veggie loving child actors placed at school lunch tables. The actors ate their veggies and encouraged the kids around them to eat the veggies too. The non-veggie lovers seeing the actors eat quickly ate all of their veggies too. Peer pressure=veggie lovers.
Another favorite was the classroom that had 2 snack choices at snack time for an entire week: dried mangoes and raisins. The entire classroom loved the mangoes, but were a little raisin shy. The teacher explained that there would be 2 bells, the first bell the kids could eat as many mangoes as they wanted, but they COULD NOT eat the raisins. At the second bell the children could eat as many raisins as they wanted. The first bell rang, and the children devoured the mangoes, and at the second bell the kids were so curious about the raisins (and why they couldn’t have them) that they had to try them. The experiment continued for an entire week, and on the last day the children couldn’t wait to eat the raisins, and left the bowl of mangoes untouched. I saw children pushing grabbing as many raisins as they could hold on to. It was crazy. By limiting and restricting the raisins, they wanted them all the more. I wonder if this one will work in my house?
I was also so excited to see previews for the new season of Jon & Kate plus 8. I fell in love with this show last year, and I can’t wait for the new season. I don’t know how they manage with eight children, it is amazing. Kate is so organized, I wish she could visit and help me get my house in order.
