Usually I make a Turkey (and a Ham), along with all of the trimmings, and I end up spending all day in the kitchen, and I’m exhausted by mid-day, and oh yeah I’ve completely neglected everyone that I love. This year I am mixing things up when it comes to Christmas dinner I’m serving a simple menu, spending less time in the kitchen, and more time with my family.
This year’s Christmas dinner will feature Chili and Homemade Turkey and Noodle Soup. I might bake a batch of Homemade Rolls, and serve I’ll Saltines with the Chili. I’ll also be making a veggie tray and Chocolate Bundt Cake for dessert. I’m planning on setting up both of my big Crock Pots in the kitchen along with Coffee Mugs and Spoons, so everyone can help themselves. The dessert and extra snacks will be on the buffet table in the dining room.
I hope that the laid back menu will relieve some of the stresses that come along with the holidays. I just hope that the guests don’t mind the new menu…
What are you serving for Christmas dinner this year?

I agree with you plans Nico, we spend too much time in the kitchen and for what 30 minutes of indulging. This year we are having sprial ham, bbq meatballs, deviled eggs, veggie tray, cheese ball and probably a fruit tray. Simple, and a lot can be made ahead and its a buffet and they can eat as much and when they want.
I personally will spend my time playing the Wii with the grandkids this year, Grandma is in better health and can more and enjoy my babies.
Happy Holidays

I love home made chili!
We’ll be having grilled steak dinners on Christmas Eve.
Christmas Day we kind of just spend messing up the house and relaxing.
Christmas Day we’ll have teriyaki and spicy chicken wings- premade, heat in the microwave and serve, a sandwich platter, a veggie platter, a fruit platter, and whatever Christmas cookies and goodies we happen to have.
We are having 5 get togethers between now and through Christmas day. Then another on the 3rd of January. We are having a little of this and a little of that and one of the get together’s we are having the traditional dinner.
We all share the cooking duties.
I love cooking and eating, but most of all the fellowship!
The turkey noodle soup sounds devine! Blessings!!!!
You’re right, a scaled-down menu hits the spot. My mom used to get up at 430 in the morning to stick the turkey in the oven, no more of that. I love the idea of chili for supper…nothing better than home-made chili.
That’s a great idea Nicole….one year I hosted dh’s family for Christmas Eve and we did appetizers….we did have a ham to make it a little more hearty but other than that, appetizers…..it was so yummy and alot less stress. We are heading to dh’s sister’s house for Christmas Eve and she will be doing a ham…I’ll be bringing a special cheesy potato dish. On Christmas Day, we will be heading to my parents around 11:00 for a brunch. Yum! Ellie 🙂
We are having beef tips and mashed potatoes and a few veggies. I made a lot of desserts for Thanksgiving but I am not planning on making much more than cookies. Usually we have Mexican food 🙂
Thanks Vicki! It sounds like you have a wonderful Christmas planned. The Christmas buffet sounds delicious too. I hope that you and your family have a very Merry Christmas!

Thanks Susan! I hope that the new menu goes well, I’m looking forward to relaxing and enjoying the day more. I have a lot of trouble balancing Hostess duties, along with kitchen duties, and I end up one stressed out nico 😉 I hope that you and your family have a wonderful Christmas! Sending big hugs your way!
Thanks Ellie! I love your idea for appetizers, they are always so yummy 🙂 It sounds like you are going to have a great Christmas filled with family and yummy food too 🙂 I hope that you have a wonderful Christmas and a Happy New Year!
