Vintage Kitchen Finds

This year has been all about finishing painting projects, and decorating the house. We’ve been in our current home for eight years, and it needs a little love. One of the rooms that needed a lot of love is the kitchen. We’ve painted, moved appliances, but there is still a lot of work to be done.

I’ve been decorating a bit in there too. I’ve started collecting vintage Pyrex pieces to decorate with, and last weekend I found some fantastic pieces.

Saturday morning we were driving around looking for yard sales. We visited a large pop-up flea market, but no luck. I asked James if he wouldn’t mind heading to an antique shop that I’ve wanted to visit. He said it sounded like fun, and off we went.

O.k. this shop was amazing… I found two pieces as soon as we walked in the door, and I was thrilled.

There was booth after booth, and room after room filled with finds. I found four more pieces in a pattern that I have been looking for. The price was just right too.

We are planning another trip out there soon. I think there are a few more pieces of Pyrex that needs to find it’s way to my house.

The kitchen is looking bright and cheerful, now I just need to paint those cabinets.

An Afternoon Out

Last Friday, my Mother in law was visiting for the afternoon. The kids were restless, so we took them out for ice cream. When we made it back home, she told me to head out for a bit, and I knew exactly where I wanted to go.

I headed to a few of my favorite Antique shops downtown, and did a little Pyrex hunting.

I stopped at Trader Dave’s first. I really like this shop, and they have expanded their backroom too. There are lots of large furniture pieces there, and lots of antique dishes too.

I wandered around the store for a bit. I saw lots of furniture that I would have loved to bring home, but it was a bit out of my price range. I did find one cool purchase though.

After Trader Dave’s I headed over to my very favorite local shop, The Treasure Hunt.

This is seriously my very favorite place to antique. The store is two stories filled with awesome finds. The sweetest lady runs the shop too.

I always find something.

I love this little book nook under the stairs. I need a little room like this at our house too.

I wandered to the second level of the shop, and I found something that was on my wish list.

They also have beautiful pressed tin ceilings there too.

I loves these sweet little curtains that lined the windows upstairs too. I would love to have a set like this in the kitchen.

I found a few little pieces that had to come home with me, so I headed for the check-out. I did really well too, and I had a little bit of time left too. I decided to head to one more shop, before I headed home.

We’ve lived here for around nine years, and there are a few shops downtown that I’ve never visited. One in mind that I’ve always window shopped, but never shopped in, was The Iron Star Antiques & Such. It looked like a great store to shop in, but not really to take children too, because it is full of breakables.

I headed over to the shop, and well it wasn’t my cup of tea. There were some antiques, but it was mostly modern pieces. The prices were out of my comfort zone too. I looked around a bit, but I quickly headed out. I think  I’ll stick with my favorites for antique shopping.

So after all of those stops I came home with a few items. I’ve just started adding Fire King pieces to my kitchen collection. I spotted this one at Trader Dave’s for just $3.00, and that included the lid too. I like the pattern on this dish, and it looks extra cute by my cookbooks.

At the Treasure hunt I found two Pyrex dishes, and a super cool giant coffee cup too.

I rearranged the kitchen a bit to find room for my new Pyrex bowl.

I also put the new coffee cup to good use. It makes a nice tea cup for my favorite blueberry tea.

It was nice to get a little break out of the house, and the kids had a great time too. Grandma kept them busy, and they didn’t miss me at all. I hope to check out a few more stores once the boys are back to school. It will be nice to have a few more quiet afternoons too.

Yard Sale Finds

Last Friday we found two yard sales close to home. One was at an awesome historic home, and the other was walking distance from our house.

The first sale, I found a pretty bowl to add to my collection. At the second sale, at Saint Mary’s we all found some treasures to bring home.

The kids came home with several toys. I found a coffee cup, a few more serving bowls, and some sheets too. James found a Chess set that he liked.

I spotted this box full of giant Lego blocks. I had never seen a set like this before. They had to come home with us, and I got the price down to just $2.00. Hopefully they’ll keep the kiddos busy this Summer.

Yard Sale Finds

One sunny warm day we spotted a yard sale close to home. Dylan, Agnes, and I decided to walk to it after school was out. It is one of my favorite ones too. They have the yard sale often, and it is run by the cutest little ladies who are raising funds for their church. The ladies are always kind, and they have some terrific bargains too.

The kids came home with several toys. I think they were 5 for $1.00. I also found a wooden bedside table for Dylan for just $3.00. I picked up several vintage sheets, pillowcases, and some yarn too. I think I spent a little over $7.00 when my buys were tallied up.

So far I am coming across some pretty good finds this Spring yard sale season. I keep looking for that perfect Pyrex bowl. What are some of your favorite things to look for at yard sales?

City-Wide Yard Sale Finds

Well I had my weekend wrong… I thought the city-wide yard sale was the first weekend of May, but it was the second. I had to wait a bit longer, but it was a great weekend to do some yard sale shopping.

We started on Friday after James was home from work. We also went out on Saturday for a few more sales. I came home with way too much, like always.

I found this great little plant for $1 . I need to re-pot it, and separate the little babies too.

I was happy to find a great blanket, and trays for the kids too.

On Saturday, I found so many items…

Lots of cups. Including an adorable Pyrex coffee cup from the 80’s.

I picked up some pretty awesome cases too.

I love this little coffee pot, but I think I will use it for tea.

I also picked up some framed cross-stitch samplers, lots of vintage sheets, more plates, and a utensils holder for the kitchen.

One of my favorite finds was the Pyrex butter dish. It had to come home with me.

The yard sales were so much fun. Agnes had a blast too. It was a great way to spend the weekend.
