Yard Sale Favorites

Oh, how I am missing sunny Spring yard sales. We ventured over to MO yesterday to run a few errands, and drive around a bit to look at houses. I kept my eyes peeled for, home for sale signs, and garage sale signs. We found a few houses to look at, but no yard sales though…

I thought I would share some of my favorite yard sale finds from 2013. As well as a few things that I am hoping to find in 2014.

Seriously, Spring and those fantastic yard sales can’t get here soon enough.

I was super happy to find a Pyrex butter dish tucked away at a yard sale.

I found some super cool vintage luggage too.

I love to pick up sheets for the kids beds. I have found lots of them for around fifty cents.

I like to collect kitschy art. Yard sales are a great place to find inexpensive and unique pieces.

I picked up this great plant for just $1.00!

I found one of my very favorite paintings at a little shop. They opened their doors, just for one day on the city-wide yard sale. The sweetest little lady ran the sale. I came home with lots of treasures from that sale.

Serving Trays are another item that I’m always looking for. I’m a bit clumsy in the kitchen, and I’ve been known to break them. This one was just $.75 .

We girls (Agnes, my Mother in law, and I) went to a great sale at a local Christian School. They had some amazingly cute kids clothes, and the prices were fantastic.

I love to pick-up kids toys and books at yard sales. We have lots of readers in our house, and we are always in need of new reading material.

Here are a few things that I’m looking for this Yard Sale season.

Once again, books. Kids books to be specific. Agnes isn’t reading yet, but she might be soon. I have been building a little collection for her.

I’ll be looking for yarn. Every once in a while, I’ll come across some. I love it too. The yard sale yarn adds a little something extra to my projects.

Oh how I hope I can come across some large vintage Pyrex bowls. Any colors, any styles, fingers crossed, hoping for the best.

Spring and Summer clothes for the kiddos are also on my list to find.

I would like to find some useable storage. It would be great to find affordable, and fits our mid-century style cabinets, dressers, or bookshelves. Every single room in our house is in need of some storage help.

And last but not least vintage Pyrex. Once again any color, any print, as long as it is milk glass. I really hope to find a few pieces this yard sale season.

Thrifty Finds

Over Christmas break, my mother in law visited, and James and I got out of the house for a bit. We headed off to a few local antique shops, and visited the used bookstore too. It was a lovely afternoon out, and I found a few great finds too.

I picked up two bags of yarn for $2.00! These will be used for another project that I’m working on.

I can’t resist Vintage Cookbooks! Both of these had to come home with me.

We found several Pyrex pieces too. The kitchen collection keeps on growing.

I was so happy to get out of the house for a bit. It has been a long Christmas vacation.

Thursday Thrifting With The Miss

This morning Agnes started drawing Christmas pictures. She is anxious for the holiday to arrive, and she really wants to dig out all of the Christmas lights. We were taking James lunch today, and we drove past a Flea Market that I haven’t been to in a while. After we were done at lunch, I thought we should stop in and see what we could find.

I spotted a really cute snowman, but it was way out of my price range. I also found a pretty cool bench, but the price just wasn’t for me.

Agnes spotted the booth filled with Christmas decorations, and she made a bee-line for it. She swooped up a big  plastic Santa, and said I have to buy this… I checked the price, as she was hugging the Santa, and said sure. She was so excited, and she already had a place in mind for it.

I found a little something for me too. This one is going to live with the rest of the kitchen collection.

We might go visit another favorite Antique shop tomorrow. I know it isn’t Small Business Saturday just yet, but I love spending the afternoons browsing the local shops.

The Miss is pretty happy with her find too.

This Weekend

This weekend I was planning on hanging out around the house, crocheting a bit, and making lists.

Instead we took advantage of the warm November weather, and headed out to a few local antique shops. The kids went along too. At first they wern’t too interested in shopping for antiques, but after a bit, they were having fun looking for finds.

We visited two antique shops, and then we made a run to the used bookstore. The kids loved the bookstore. There are many rooms to explore, and so many shelves of great books.

I came home with a few goodies too.

I picked up a few vintage cookbooks at the bookstore. I can’t resist cookbooks from the 1960’s. I think I really missed my calling as a 60’s housewife.

I picked up a Fire King casserole dish, and an Orange coffee cup. I’ve started collecting a few Fire King pieces. I love this little star-burst pattern.

I also found a few pieces of Pyrex for the kitchen collection.

I had to look high and low for these gems. They were all well hidden in the shops. I spotted a few more pieces that I really wanted to bring home, how I hate leaving Pyrex behind.

It was a nice way to spend the day, and the kids did well too. I hope to get back out to the antique stores for small business Saturday. Hopefully I’ll find some more treasures for the kitchen.

City-Wide Yard Sale Finds

Last weekend was the semi-annual city wide yard sale, and I couldn’t wait to go. My Mother in law was in town too, so we started  Friday morning scouting out sales, and scoring some deals. One fantastic  indoor sale was packed with great finds. I came home with adorable kids clothes and shoes for Agnes. I also found some vintage books that I couldn’t pass up. Agnes spotted a toy that she wanted, and it was right on budget.

We picked up several bags of goodies, and only spent $11.00!

Saturday we headed out early, and spent several hours treasure hunting. James was off work, so he did the driving, and I did the scouting. We found lots of great sales, and I picked up so many goodies…

I might have found too many treasures. I had the back of the van completely stuffed…

We had so much fun though. I love to go to yard sales. I met some sweet people, got some big hugs, great deals, and even a few freebies too.

I spent Saturday afternoon cleaning up all of the treasures. I rearranged the kitchen, and got everything put up and away too.

I just love the “new” thrifty finds.
