I am so very tired of dishes.

I’m on my second bottle this month,
I am so very tired of dishes.
We almost have a full month of school wrapped up, and I am exhausted. Between early mornings, late evenings, and weekend activities too, we are extra busy. Getting the kids back into a school routine has been tough, especially when it comes to homework.
Thade has homework Monday-Thursday, and I also give him at home homework to do too. He calls it mom-work. It isn’t much, but I think it is really helping him out with his reading and spelling too.
Every night and even on the weekends, I have him read a chapter from a non-school book. It doesn’t take him too long, and he usually reads two or three chapters.

He will also read board books to Agnes and Dylan, they love to listen to their big brother read.
Thade has been frustrated this year by the school’s reading limitations on reading materials. He has gone to the school library several times and tried to check out a very specific library book ( he is reading at a higher level) and he isn’t allowed to check out the book. I don’t think that this practice is fair at all, and I’m a bit of a stinker when it comes to rules, so…

To help keep him interested in and excited about reading, I let him go to the public library, use his library card, and pick out whatever book he wants to read. He knows the children’s section well, and sticks with the third grade level books. He is so proud when he gets to use his card, and find a favorite book to read.
I also have him write out his spelling words nightly, and we even do a practice spelling test on Thursdays.

We use a Composition notebook at home, it keeps all of this spelling “worksheets” nice and neat. I can also keep an eye on how his handwriting is improving. I have seen a big improvement in his spelling already, most weeks he gets a 106% on his spelling tests.
It isn’t much, in fact after snack time it only takes about 20 minutes for Thade to finish his homework and his mom-work too. I plan on carrying on this tradition when Dylan enters school next year too.
So what about you… How do you help your kiddos with their homework?
Today is our first really cool almost Fall day. We woke up to a beautiful 48 degree day, and I couldn’t be happier. I love the cloudy skies, the rainy days, the changing leaves, and the cooler weather too.

Today, I’m excited about…

Baking! I love to bake in the Fall, there is nothing better than coming in from a rainy day to delicious treats baking in the kitchen.

My super cute cat crashing out all over the house, he loves to nap the Autumn away.

Fuzzy Socks! I love to bust out my fuzzy-stripey-oh-so-comfy sock collection in the Fall.

Long sleeves and hoodies too!
Last but not least

crunchy leaves.
I just love Fall. What about you? Do you love Fall too.
Some are sweet, some are not, some are savory, and some are super hot. Enough with the rhyming, here are some tasty treats for you.

I made a giant Chicken Dinner one night in August. Complete with Fresh Biscuits,

Panko crusted fried okra (from our garden),

and of course Panko Fried Chicken.

I spent more time in the kitchen, revisiting old recipes.

I made several batches of Cinnamon Rolls.

I baked several loaves of bread, thanks to the bread-maker.

I tried a new dessert too. Homemade Oatmeal Cream Pies, these were a big hit with the family.

One night I was missing Autumn weather so much, I made a big pot of Ham & Beans, and cornbread muffins.

I tried a new recipe for Bacon Breakfast Potatoes. I really liked these, but the family wasn’t on board with this dish. They are crazy! What is better than potatoes and bacon?!?

Lastly, I had some filling leftover that needed to be used, so I baked up a big batch of Double Chocolate cookies, and made some cookie pies. This one was also a win with the family.
I have a big menu planned for September full of Autumn favorites and desserts too. I can’t wait to get started.
I miss my slacker calendar… The months that looked like this.

Blank days with nothing on the calendar.
This is the new non-stop…

My head hurts, and we are just getting started.
