August’s Favorite Photos

In August we said good-bye to the lazy Summer days, and hello to a new school-year.

The first day of school snuck up on us.

Thade is in a new school this year. So far the third grade is going well.

Dylan enjoyed the Summer vacation, but he was anxious for school to start.

This is his first year at kindergarten, and he loves it. He is always anxious to get to school.

Agnes was a little bummed when both of the boys headed off to school.

She is into everything these days.

She’ll be turning three next month.

She is already asking if she will go to preschool too. I’m not quite ready for that.

The kiddos became full-blown Whovians this Summer. I have no idea just how many hours we spent watching Doctor Who.

There were lots of messes and video game levels were created too. It was a fun Summer.

I got out a bit this Summer, and rediscovered my love for antique shops.

I spotted this beauty at Trader Daves.

I spent a lot of the Summer sewing too. I’ve set up a little sewing room for myself in the foyer.

We had a few late Summer flowers, but the heat was just miserable this year.

I started a new collection.

I really want to go back and visit this shop again soon.

I’m piecing together a few quilts. This little one is for Agnes. She loves pink and purple.

The puppy is getting bigger.

She has also been into everything…

The kitty turns thirteen this year… He hasn’t been as playful as he used to be…

He loves to nap on whatever project I’m working on.

We’ll see what September brings our way.

Kitchen Redux

The kitchen has become my latest obsession to redecorate. I have so many ideas spinning through my head, but it’s the kitchen… It is the room that I probably spend the most time in, and the room that is constantly in use. When is there a good time to redo the kitchen?

Well, we jumped in and started this project on Monday. We moved lots of kitchen-goods, taped and primed the walls. James also surprised me with rearranging the deep freezer and refrigerator too. I have so much room in the kitchen now.

I’ve got my color picked out for the walls, and James even worked out a bit of space for a pantry. It is going to be a big project, but I’m excited that the kitchen is finally going to look a little more like me.

Summer Wrap-Up

With Summer drawing to a close, and the school days on their way, I wanted to share some of my favorite photos from this Summer.

We spent many days just hanging out at home.

We made our yearly stop off at the Good ‘Ol Days.

I loved the cool quiet evenings.

We had fun play-dates with friends.

We took a road-trip to Carthage.

The boys enjoyed an awesome surprise too.

We enjoyed a few Summer flowers.

We had an awesome Fourth of July!

We saw many warm days.

We stayed up late reading so many books.

We worked on many little projects.

We also worked on some not-so-little projects.

We laughed when the puppy took over the air-conditioning vent.

We spent late nights with this guy too.

I kept busy in the kitchen.

We also had a few date nights too.

We spent many hours watching Doctor Who,

and we took lot of pictures too.

This Summer has passed all too quickly, but I am anxious for Autumn to arrive.

This Week

This week is a bit of a melancholy week, it is the last week of Summer break. I am in no way ready to go back to the set routine of the everyday, and neither is Thade. Dylan can’t wait though, he wishes kindergarten started this week instead of next.

Monday:

Early Monday morning, the kids were still sleeping in, so I finished another book. I’ve read everything in my collection, so I started looking around the house for more books. I found a few more books out of James’ collection that I haven’t read yet. Well, one I have, but it was so good I’m going to read it again.

I didn’t get to read too much because Monday involved non-stop errands. I was out of the house throughout the day, and we had to grocery shop too.

I finally got to sew a bit in the afternoon. I finished sewing all of the nine patch blocks that I pinned together yesterday.

I can’t wait to get some new fabric and get this quilt together.

Tuesday:

We had lots of rain. Serious, actual rain. It was cool, rainy, and cloudy all day. We stayed in and enjoyed a day at home.

I baked some breadsticks for lunch. I love to bake on rainy days. It is crazy my boys can finish off an entire batch at one setting.

I also got out more of my fabric stash to cut into 3×3’s. I have been sewing lots of nine patches this week. I think I’m up to thirty seven.

I gave the kiddos back to school hair-cuts. I also gave Agnes a little trim, how I wanted to give her bangs.

Wednesday:

I woke up to the start of a cluster headache, and I was not too happy about it. I decided to take my yucky noggin and three grouchy kids to the store for some migraine medicine and some new fabric too.

It wasn’t the best of trips, but I did find some fabric that I liked.

Thursday:

Day two of the cluster headache, and Agnes didn’t sleep again. Thade was worried about me in the morning, so he let me sleep in. He took Dylan downstairs so they could play in the living room. My boys are awesome.

This day just started off a bit wonky. By afternoon, it had turned into a mess,  and continued meltdown after meltdown until late in the evening.

Here’s hoping for a better tomorrow.

Friday:

Oh goodness, not a good day… Agnes was grumpy, Thade was grumpy, and Dylan was grumpy too. This was a very long, grumpy, gripey, miserable day.

I decided to work on Agnes’ quilt a bit, and I took the pieces upstairs to map out a pattern.

I still need to sew a few more patches, but I am loving the look of the quilt so far. There are pinks, purples, oranges, and light greens throughout the quilt. Now I need to make at least four more.

Saturday:

The boys were up and excited, and ready to go. They had a birthday party to go to in the afternoon, and by 8:00 a.m., they were already asking if they could get their shoes on and go.

We needed to grocery shop, so it was just Agnes and I at the store.

We did pretty good too. We got a weeks worth of groceries and checked-out in under forty minutes. The boys were happy to be at a party, and not grocery shopping.

I got a little bummed when I purchased juice boxes for the boys lunches. I still can’t believe that school starts in just a few days.

This Week

This week…..

Monday:

Monday morning started off well. James was home from work, and he let me sleep in. I slept in past 8:30 a.m., which was awesome. I can’t remember the last time that I was able to sleep in.

We needed to run to the store, but the kids were not really wanting to go. We made one stop, and Agnes threw a gigantic fit. I thought we were doomed to go grocery shopping. James got her calmed back down, and we were able to get the weekly run done. The boys were great. It always surprises me, when she acts up, the boys act extra good.

I had a few errands to run in the afternoon, and James watched the kids. When I was gone, Agnes crashed out for a nap.

I decided it was the perfect time to finally start working on the accent wall in the living room. We liked the foyer kinda red-kinda purple, so I’m bringing it in to the living room too. The whole house just might end up that color once I’m done with it.

Tuesday:

I finally finished the book that I started reading a few weeks ago. It was quiet in the morning, so I read the last five chapters.

I started the last book in my collection that I haven’t read yet. It’s one that my mom let me borrow.

I think it’s time that I start working on an Autumn reading list…

The kids have been obsessed with Doctor Who this Summer.

This morning there were two episodes on, so they were extra happy about that.

I finished the second coat on the accent wall in the living room, now I really really really want to paint that woodwork.

Wednesday:

Grandma came to visit us in the afternoon. The kids were so excited to see her. She also brought us dinner, which was super nice. I really appreciated the night off from the kitchen.

Thursday:

I decided to clean out my desk a bit. It never ceases to amaze me just how much junk can end up in there.

I baked a few loaves of bread in the afternoon. I love to bake in the Summer, the bread proofs super fast.

Friday:

Friday quickly became a throw-away day… The kids were bored, and fighting, James was working a crazy schedule, I was kinda grumpy, so I gave up, and did the bare minimum.

I did get the laundry done, the dishes washed, meals made, cat and dog fed. I did kick it on the couch and watch a few hours of Doctor Who though.

Saturday:

Batman marathon for the kids, that is all… Thade has been waiting for this day for over a month, one of his favorite channels was showing Batman movies all day, and into the night. So it was pretty much Batman all day over here.

Agnes kept herself busy emptying every single bin in the house several times during the day. She wasn’t too happy when she had to help clean up the mess.

Mia got into the mess party too. Saturday was a very messy day.

This week is the last week of Summer, and I can’t believe that we will be back to school in just a bit. I’m so not ready to get back to it.
