Not just a …

This is a new series on my blog where I find a new and different use for a common item in the home. Today I’m using my Melon Baller as a cookie scoop.

I send about 3 dozen cookies to my husband’s workplace every Friday. The cookies are homemade, but I want them to look fairly uniform. The melon baller does the job beautifully. I can easily place 16 cookies on one air bake cookie sheet, so my time baking in the kitchen is quick too. I have plenty of bite sized cookies to share with the co-workers, and still have a few for my boys at home. Now I’m off to find a big glass of milk 😉

Wednesday Paper

Wednesday is when I get the loss leaders in my neck of the woods. How I wish they came in the weekend paper, that is when I make my lists. This weeks ads didn’t offer too many great deals, bummer. I guess I’ll have to wait for next Wednesdays deals.

All of my loss leaders are from out of town and about 30 minutes away. It is about a $7.00 round trip. I only go and shop if I can save more with my coupons, and if I can’t find a better deal in town. I also have to make my gas money worth the trip. Sometimes I like to shop out of state. It is a 20 minute drive, and a $5.00 round trip. The sales tax is much lower, and I fill up my gas tank too. Gas is usually twenty cents cheaper than what I pay locally.

Every week it seems I’m playing the grocery/gas money game, searching for the best deals, and cheaper gas. What steps are you taking to help to help out your grocery/gas budget?

A few sites to check out and help out with both:

A great site to check local gas prices in the USA- www.gasbuddy.com
Another great site to check out local grocery sales and compare them too- www.groceryguide.com

Whats for Lunch?

This seems to be trouble for me. I plan my dinner menus monthly, I can make a pretty mean breakfast, but when it comes to lunch I draw a blank. My husband comes home for lunch everyday, and a few times a week I run out for takeout, which adds up really fast. I’ve been trying to get creative with items that I can keep stocked in the freezer for a quick and inexpensive meal, but I could use a little help. Any suggestions to get me out of my lunch funk would be greatly appreciated.

4 Boo-boo’s

Dylan had his four month check-up last night, and I have to say I love visiting the Doctor in the evening. No lines, no waiting, plenty of parking, and your baby can make as much noise as he wants. He is now weighing in at 14 lbs. 1 oz., and he is 24 inches long. The Doctor gave me the o.k. to start him on rice cereal too! I’m so happy, I hope that will help him sleep through the night a little better. He had to get 4 shots, and Thade was impressed with the amount of Band-Aids that Dylan came home with. He is a little sore today, I know he will be feeling better soon.

Man oh man it is Monday

Thade woke up extra early this morning, and Dylan soon followed. I think I clocked in about 4 hours of sleep last night, so my noggin is hurting today.

We had lots of errands to run today, and I only have one left to do Yahoo. We visited my husband at work, went to the Dollar General, ran to the post office, put gas in the car. Oh yeah, and then went to Wal-Mart (again). Dylan still has a Doctor’s appointment to go to today, it is at 6:30 p.m. Our local clinic stays open late on Mondays which is so cool. I hope it won’t be too crowded during the evening. James is going to stay home with Thade because Dylan has to get more shots. I hope that he does well, and I hope that I don’t stress out too much. I hate seeing the little one in pain. I’m also going to check with my Doctor to see if I can start Dylan on rice cereal. He is still nursing about every two hours, and mommy is worn out. We’ll see what she says.
