Final Day at the Fair

Yesterday was the last day of the Summertime Festival, and I was so excited to take the boys and tour the one room Schoolhouse.

The one room Schoolhouse is located on a walking track that we visit often, but this is the first time that we got to go inside for a tour.

The Schoolhouse was built in the 1800s and has been fully restored. The woodwork indoors is absolutely beautiful, and there is even a wood burning stove that was made at a local foundry. I’m hoping to make another trip to the Schoolhouse at Christmas. Every year they decorate the entire building in 1800s style Christmas decorations.

Checking Out the Local Scene

This weekend our usually quiet town has a big festival, and it starts off with a fun parade.

This year was an extra special event, the Budweiser Clydesdales were here to lead the parade 🙂 It was the biggest turn-out I’ve ever seen for the Summer parade!

The parade theme was Pennies for Progress. Locally there is a penny drive going to rebuild one of the parks. There were lots of Penny themed floats, but Thade’s favorite was the little white house, it is so cute.

Of course there were plenty of Cars, Trucks, and Tractors in the parade. Our next door neighbors were in the parade too 🙂

Both Thade and Dylan loved the parade. Thade made sure to wave at everybody, and he came home with way too much candy 🙂 Dylan had fun looking at all of the people and he really liked the cars.

But like all great Midwest parades it was cut a little short thanks to a Summer Thunderstorm 😉 We got out a little early, and went out for Ice Cream! It was a fun parade, and I can’t wait to check out the festival this afternoon, I just hope that the stormy weather stays away for just a bit.

I hope that everyone is having a great weekend!

Happy Birthday Nana!

Today is my Mom’s Birthday! I’m still working on her present and baking a cake too. She is going to come to Thade’s T-Ball game this evening, and Thade can’t wait 🙂 I hope that she has a very fun birthday, and there are two little guys that can’t wait to give her big hugs. Happy Birthday Mom!

A Little Too Late, A Little Too Early

I was finally sound asleep last night, when all of the sudden my hubby woke me up and said that we were under some awful severe weather. Half awake I turned on the TV, and yep there were tornado warnings everywhere. He ran downstairs and cleaned out the Christmas Supply Closet, just in case we needed to get in. I was a little worried the winds picked up, then I heard that there was a tornado on the ground near where my Mom lives, so I had to call her at midnight (sorry). She wasn’t upset about the late call, and she was talking to my brother he was worried too. She said that everything was fine, but they had some serious straight line winds.

We stayed up way too late listening to the winds and waiting for the sirens. Finally we were all back to sleep at 1:00 a.m. Thade slept through the entire storm, but Dylan was wide awake and mad (teething). This morning I was planning on getting up earlier than usual, it is Thade’s second day of Day Camp, and I wanted to have plenty of time to get ready. At 6:45 a.m. Thade runs in and jumps on the bed and screams “wake up Mommy”. He got up as soon as he heard Daddy wake up at 5:45 a.m., and he was dressed and ready to go to camp. He had even made a trip downstairs to see if Nana was here, she is visiting later this evening. Thade really loved Day Camp 😉

My goodness I am one tired Mommy today, and we still have an hour and a half until Day Camp time. I might have to make a little trip to McDonald’s for a Large Iced Coffee this morning, I am in desperate need of energy 😉

Dude Movies

Awhile ago I picked out my favorite chick movies to watch and review, but being the the only girl living in boyland, I get to watch a lot more Dude Movies than Chick Flicks 😉 I thought it would be fun to share and review a few of my favorite Dude Movies. Some are scary, one is funny, and one is Thade’s very favorite 🙂

First off is an awesome suggestion from my brother Rob 🙂 Rob told me that he wanted a movie called Sunshine starring Cillian Murphy for his birthday, so I checked out the trailer online and I couldn’t wait to see this movie. It is a story of 8 Scientists sent to space with the hopes of re-starting our dying Sun, the trailer was absolutely chilling. I ordered one dvd for Rob and one for James too. Early warning this is one scary movie, but it is also an incredibly sad film. It is directed by Danny Boyle who has directed a few of my other favorite movies: Trainspotting and 28 Days Later, and he did an amazing job with Sunshine! I highly recommend this one, if you like your movies on the scary side, but this one is NOT FOR KIDS!!!

Secondly we have one of my favorites that I can watch one thousand times, Shaun of the Dead. This one is a little scary, but a completely hilarious zombie flick. It stars Simon Pegg as the slacker Shaun who is trying to save the world from zombies, and it is really funny, even the zombies are funny. If you watch Shaun of the Dead go on ahead and rent Hot Fuzz (also awesome) and have a Simon Pegg movie night.

Lastly we have Thade’s favorite movie Transformers directed by Michael Bay starring Shia LaBeouf. At first I didn’t know what to think about this one, I didn’t know too much about Transformers, but after seeing the first Decepticon transformation I was sold! This is one high energy, amazingly filmed, seamless CGI movie. Watching the Autobots and Decepticons transform will blow you away, and make you wish that you watched the Transformers animated series in the 80s! I really loved this film, which is good because it is on loop in Thade’s room.

Do you have a favorite Dude Movie to share?
