New Park

Today we visited a new park, and Thade got to see one of his best buddies from school. He was so excited to start the day, he could barely get to sleep last night.

I loved the new park too. It is pretty close to our house, and it is in the shade. No headache for me, thanks to those tall shady trees.

0053

Agnes ran around on the spongy play mat. I’m pretty sure we need to turn the entire back-yard into a spongy playground, it was bouncy, and ouch-proof.

0073

Dylan was too excited to slow down and stop for a picture.

We will definitely be visiting this Park again soon, especially on cool Summer days like today.

At The Fort

“Mom, I’m bored…” Yep, that is what Thade said to me yesterday, so I suggested we go to the Fort, he replied “it’s boring!”  Boring or not the weather was awesome, so I took the kiddos to the Fort for the afternoon.

076

I think that the Fort Scott National Site is probably the biggest attraction in town, and this year they have dropped the entrance fee to view the site.

0771

You can easily spend an afternoon there, and it is a freebie too.

0171

The boys could run around, and Agnes was happy chilling out in her stroller.

020

For the first day of Summer, the weather was unbelievably beautiful. Not too hot, and just enough wind to keep you cool.

022

Since Thade thought it was so boring, I told him that he could be the tour guide. He liked that idea, and proceeded to give us a tour of the Fort complete with a British accent for an hour. It was adorable.

We decided to skip the museum this time, and walk the Prairie Trail instead. There were lots of beautiful wildflowers, bees, and butterflies to spot too.

The boys enjoyed the Prairie Trail too.

We made our way through the trail and back to the main site. The kiddos were getting a little tired, so I thought it was time to head back home for the day.

The kiddos ended up having a fun time too. I just might convince them to take another trip to the Fort on the next cool Summer day.

Heat+Sun+Local Festival=Migraine

Every year the first weekend in June it rolls around, and I start thinking of reasons why I should just stay at home. My hubby loves to go, and so do the kids. So I go along, and I always get really really really sick, I think I learned my lesson this year…

0022

I’m talking about the Good ‘Ol Days. It’s our local Summer festival where the whole town shuts down for a good 3 days and there is a big festival downtown. It is all good and fun, but unbelievably hot, how I wish they would break tradition and move the festivities to a cooler time of year.

0032

The boys enjoyed some super tasty homemade lemonade, I had one too. It was really delicious.

004

We walked around a bit and enjoyed the sites, but a good half an hour in to the festival my head was throbbing, and I was ready to call it a day.

0023

Even Miss Agnes was HOT!

0033

We all decided to grab some tasty treats and head back home to the a.c. It was a fun day for the kiddos, and my hubby too, but I was miserable.

So what didn’t make it into this post, a picture of me… Sunburned (even though I put on the 50 spf sunblock), covered in itchy hives (from the sunlight), migraine for 24 hours, and 3 days of nausea. Yeah, the Good ‘Ol Days just aren’t for me.

I am finally starting to feel better, and the nausea has passed. I’ve learned my lesson, I’m just not made for the Summertime.

The Good ‘Ol Days Parade 2011

It’s that time of the year again… The Good ‘Ol Days were last weekend, and no matter just how hot it is outside, the kiddos aren’t going to miss the parade. It’s become a family tradition of ours, I just wish the parade was in the fall.

0041

It was 6:00 p.m., but still over 90 F.

0061

Even Agnes agrees, it was too stinking hot!

0103

Even though the temp was high, there was a great turn-out for the parade.

Cute little ponies too.

Once again it was a fantastic parade. So much fun, but way too warm for me…

Local Happenings: Community Garden

I’m really excited about this new community project, and it’s within walking distance from my place. A local business has turned an empty lot into a very useful space, they’ve made a Community Garden.

0061

It will be planted soon, and it will be a great way for our community to have access to delicious and healthy foods.

005

I can’t wait to see all of the beds planted with veggie plants all in a row.

008

What a fantastic addition to our community.
