Shopping Local

I’m not a black Friday shopper, and I don’t know if I really like the idea of cyber week. I do really enjoy small business Saturday. I like to go out to a few local favorite shops, find some great items, and catch up with the owners too. This year James had to work open to close on small business Saturday, so I went out the night before Thanksgiving.

I went to two of my favorite shops, and I found myself a few goodies.

First I visited Trader Dave’s Antiques and More. I love this store, it is full of antiques and unique items. I always find something when I visit here.

This time around I found this cute Pyrex casserole dish hiding on a shelf. I have been watching a beautiful blue patchwork quilt too. It is on my Christmas wish list.

After Trader Dave’s, I headed over a few blocks to visit The Treasure Hunt Flea Market.

The Treasure Hunt has quickly become my favorite shop to visit. It is such a fun place, and there are antiques galore. The Treasure Hunt also has a large furniture room that has beautiful antiques, and amazing quilts too. I love it!

This time around I picked up a cute Pyrex butter dish. It matches a casserole dish in my collection.

I also found a little Pyrex bowl, and a green Pyrex casserole dish too. I used them both on Thanksgiving. My vintage collection is growing one piece at a time, and I’m happily shopping locally too.

So what about you… Do you have a favorite local shop that is unique to your town?

Crisp Morning

Today it really feels like Fall. When I took the boys to school it was 39 F, and it was cool and crisp. The trees are getting some pretty autumn color too. Here’s a few from our neck of the woods.

I love this bright yellow and orange tree just down the street from us. It is beautiful.

I absolutely love this time of year.

Agnes picked up a few leaves to bring home. She didn’t mind the chilly walk.

Autumn is the best!

The 2012 Tractor Parade

A few weeks ago we went to one of our very favorite autumn traditions. We took the kiddos to the Pioneer Harvest Fiesta Parade.

The kids were ready for the parade to begin. We got there plenty early, so we could find a good spot.

We found a great spot.

Pretty soon it was time for the parade to begin.

There were lots of tractors.

Lots and lots of tractors.

The Trolley was there too.

There were small tractors.

There were red tractors.

There were green tractors too.

We even spotted a yellow-orange tractor too.

There were some really cool cars.

We saw several marching bands.

This red, white, and blue one was pretty cool too.

It was an awesome parade!

The kiddos got a ton of candy too…

Antique Shopping

Squee! I love antique shopping. James had a day off on Monday, and I really needed a break out of the house. He said that he didn’t mind watching the kids, so I could check out a few of the local antique shops. I had a great time too, and found a few vintage finds that had to come home with me.

I have wanted to visit this shop for quite awhile, it is called the Treasure Hunt. I spot their ad in the local paper often, and it looks like an interesting store filled to the brim with antiques.

Sadly, they were closed on Mondays…

So I did some window shopping instead.

Hopefully I can visit there sometime soon. It looks like a great shop.

So since I struck out at the Treasure Hunt, I headed over to another store that I have wanted to visit.

Trader Dave’s Antiques and More

It was a great big store filled with room after room of antique and vintage goodness.

Trader Dave’s reminded me of some of my favorite shops in SW MO.

I wandered all over the store several times. There were a lot of fantastic pieces.

I found some goodies that just had to come home with me. I found three vintage Pyrex bowls, a tiny vintage suitcase, and a pretty vintage purse too. Yep, they had to be mine!

These look perfect for a night away.

They look pretty cute with my very favorite vintage bag too.

I had such a fun afternoon, I was happy to check out a few local shops too. I hope to make this a monthly trip for myself, it was great to get out of the house for a bit.
