Pennies, Pennies Everywhere

This week there has been a lot going on in our little town. The Guinness Book of World Records has been visiting, and overseeing a 40 mile chain of pennies. The town has been collecting the pennies for over a year in an attempt set a new World Record for the fastest Penny Chain built, and the longest Penny Chain. The pennies are also being used to fund much needed additions to a local park. If enough funds are raised we will have new playgrounds, beach volleyball pits, and a miniature golf course.

Thade and I visited the site yesterday, and it was so cool to see all of the pennies. There was quite a turn out too, even though the temps were pretty high. There was also a community dinner and a fireworks display. I hope that the Penny Chain makes it in to the Record books, and I’m looking forward to the mini golf!

One More Storm

Last night was a very long night. Thade was grumpy so he had an early bedtime, and Dylan was up past 1:00 a.m., due to teething troubles. I was walking Dylan back and forth in the hallway (without my glasses on) when I noticed an impressive lightning storm going on. I thought maybe it was just heat lightning, because this lightning was very fast and it didn’t seem like regular storm lightning, there was no thunder.

I finally got Dylan to sleep, and I was exhausted. All of the sudden at 2:00 a.m. James jumped out of bed and flipped on the light, and he said we need to get downstairs right now. I grabbed Dylan and James went to get Thade (who was totally asleep) we were under a horrible storm and the wind was howling. The sirens had not sounded, but something was not right.

I flipped on my laptop and we were under a Severe Storm warning that was calling for 60 mph sustained winds with 90 mph Straight Line winds, along with quarter sized hail. We waited up until the warning had passed, and the weather had calmed down a bit, but Dylan was miserable. He was up until 4:00 a.m., and today I’m totally beat.

When morning finally rolled around, I walked around the house to see if we had any damage. There were trees and limbs down all over our block, and several people in town are without power. We had one tree that had a broken branch, and thankfully that was all.

We’ve been cleaning up the yard this afternoon, and there are more storms on the way today. I just hope that they will be mild, and those powerful winds stay away.

Let’s Go To The Park

Thanks to the warmer Summer weather, and Thade’s Day Camp we are at the park all the time. Last week was Dylan’s first time on the swings, and he wasn’t the biggest fan, but we’ll try again another time. Thade would live at the park if we would let him. He loves to play on the swings, and slide on the slides. I love looking at all of the wild flowers, and seeing the ducks and geese, they are too cute.

Off to the Farmer’s Market

We made another trip to the Farmer’s Market this morning, but we were a little too late to pick up the fresh produce. My sweet tooth paid off, I found plenty of sweet treats this morning. We picked up a batch of new potatoes, chocolate brownies, blackberry pie, a blueberry muffin, peanut butter fudge (my mother in laws fudge is way better), and a caramel roll for Thade’s breakfast.

My neighbor told me that the market is also open on Wednesday mornings, and Thade is always up early on weekdays, so we’ll have to check it out, and hopefully get some yummy veggies! Have a great weekend everyone!

Happy Flag Day and a Trip to the Market

We made a trip trip to the Farmer’s Market. Thade was up early and ready to go. It is a quick walk from our house, and both of the boys look forward to the outing

We got to the Farmer’s Market earlier than last week, and there were about eight vendors today. I stopped and chatted with one of the ladies and she told me of some the other vendors that bring in fresh cheese and milk, but you have to get there early. She also gave the boys an American Flag each to wave for Flag Day, the boys were thrilled with the flags, and Dylan is walking his flag all over the house.

Thade was happy with the trip to the Farmer’s Market, he got to pick up a chocolate cupcake for $.50

Dylan was happy to go along for the ride, and he loved the Amish Horse and Buggy : )

I’m pretty excited about all of the buys. I picked up some Strawberry Freezer Jam, Apple Butter, a Chocolate Cupcake for Thade’s Snack, and some Local Honey. I hope the honey will help out with Thade’s allergies, and mine too, either way it will be tasty on toast ; )
