Checking out a MOPS meeting

Tomorrow while Thade is busy at Preschool Dylan and I will be going to our first MOPS (Mothers of Preschoolers) meeting. I hope that the meeting will be fun, and I hope that Dylan has a great time getting to meet other toddlers. Our local group meets every First and Third Friday during the School year, and they even serve a tasty breakfast for the Mommies. I think it will be a fun outing for the little guy and me too.

Have you attended a MOPS meeting? Fill me in on all of the details…

Walking the Recycling

My boys love to go for walks. If I even say the word “go” Dylan will run and grab his shoes and stand by the front door. Yesterday I thought it would be fun to walk to the Post Office, and drop off our recycling along the way. Just a few blocks away we found a place where you can drop off aluminum cans to benefit a local charity.

I loaded up the stroller with two bags of aluminum, and we started on our walk. We walked to the drop off, and the nicest lady hollered to us “Thank you for recycling with us”, Thade felt proud that he was doing something nice for the environment. We made our way to the Post Office, and we spotted a few more cans on the trip. I picked them up, and we would make one more stop to recycle them on the way home.

When we went back Terry (recycling lady) was outside so we introduced ourselves, and Thade handed her the found cans. He was proud of the extra cans that he found on the walk. I hope that this will become a weekly tradition for us, it is a great walk for Thade, and a great way to help the Planet (just a bit) too.

Sneaking Off To the Park

The weather is amazing this morning, 77 and cloudy. It was a prefect morning to surprise the kids with a trip to the park. We haven’t been to the park since Day Camp ended, the weather has just been too stinking hot. We were taking Dad back to work, and I decided to drive past the house, and head towards their favorite playground.

Thade was a little worried that we didn’t stop off at our house, but he was really happy when he realized where we were going. We drove down the big hill, and stopped at Thade’s favorite play area. It has a larger Playground for the big kids, and a mini play ground for the little ones. Both Dylan and Thade could play safely and have fun.

The park also has a lot of Ducks and Geese that beg to be fed. They are so cute, and Dylan wasn’t too scared of the big honking geese begging for treats. He kept saying, ” Oh, mom, duck”! Thade didn’t get too close though, he kept his distance from the honking geese. Maybe next time we’ll bring along some treats for the ducks and geese.

Once the boys were tired from all of the running around we headed back up the hill to visit the Bird and Rabbit Display. The park has a display of Midwest Birds and Turkeys. Thade liked the Chickens the best. The park also has several Rabbit hutches with adorable bunnies. I love rabbits, and wish I could free them from their cages and take them all home with me. Dylan loved the bunnies, and kept saying “Oh, mom, duck!” I tried to get him to say “bunny”, but all he could say was duck. Thade kept asking the bunnies to make sure and visit him for Easter, and don’t forget to bring chocolate and Easter eggs.

It was a fun morning, and a great outing for the boys. I’m glad that we took advantage of the cooler weather, it is going to be 110 tomorrow! We have VBS later today, and Thade is ready to go. I hope that Dylan does well too.

Wrong Number

I was downstairs last night in the kitchen when the phone rang. It was a little after 9:00 p.m., and I was worried that it might be a family member in trouble (now I sound like a Wonder Pet). I answered the phone, but no one was there.

“Hello?” I said one more time, a little cautiously.

“Oh crap, I did it again” said the voice on the phone.

I laughed outloud, for the past two months almost every Sunday I receive the same phone call in the evening. It is this really nice lady who is trying to call her son, but she dials incorrectly and gets me. Our phone numbers are the same, but the area code is just one number different, it is too funny.

“O.k. you really have to forgive me, I’m so sorry that I’ve called you again, I am just so sorry” says the really nice lady.

“No problem” I say.

“Thanks for not chewing me out” she says.

We hang up, and I’m still giggling that she thanked me for not being mean to her. It is one of those funny mistakes, and now I have a new phone friend.

Thrift Store Goodness

Yesterday was a very long day with two grumpy kiddos, so today I decided that before it got too hot we would get out of the house and go for a walk. I loaded up the stroller with cool drinks for the kids and we headed to a new Thrift Store. I love to shop at thrift stores. I’m always hoping to find fabulous vintage clothing and a cool dish or two.

Today Thade spotted two nice shirts that he really liked, and I found a super cool beaded bag. You know I can’t resist a vintage purse.  I also picked up a hand painted serving tray. I’ll be using it tonight as a veggie tray.

Even though we were shopping at a thrift shop the clothes were a little pricey. Kids clothes were $2.00 on up, and Women’s clothing was $7.00 and up. The kitchenware and fabric prices were just right. There was even a $.05 coffee cup sale going on. We’ll be checking back in often, and the walk wasn’t too far for Thade.

Do you have a favorite Thrift Store that you visit often, or a great Thrift Store find?
