Park Life

Yesterday Thade was out of school and James was off work for the day, so Shaunna and I planned a Play-Date at the park for the kiddos. We met there in the morning, and the kiddos had a blast.

I was hoping to have some great pictures of pretty Fall foliage, but the leaves have barely started to turn. They were falling though, along with the acorns too. We’ll have to make a few more trips to the park this Fall, and hopefully see some pretty trees.

Dylan loved running around the park and even played on the little Jungle Gym.

Thade was very brave and climbed the ladder on a larger Jungle Gym. He was happy to slide down the tornado slide as many times as he wanted to.

The weather was amazing, and I hope that the nice temps stick around for a little bit more. Are you enjoying Fall? How is the weather in your neck of the woods?

Oh the Price of Fabric Softener

Sadly my Supercenter no longer carries my favorite (and nicely priced at $2.98) hypo-allergenic fabric softener. Now I’m left with $4.42-$7.00 priced fabric softener. I’m about to give up on it all and start looking for a recipe for Homemade Fabric Softener.

The funny thing though, as I was mulling over the price of this one for that, and that one for this, I noticed a lady doing the exact same thing in Laundry Detergents.

I commented: “Wow, my favorite brand is gone, and now I have no idea which one is the best deal.”

Nice lady: “I know, I swear I picked up my favorite detergent a month ago for $2.00 less”

Me:”I know, these prices are getting out of hand.”

Nice lady:” I’m just so sick of it, I now have to take out a loan to wash my clothes!”

We both smiled and giggled, and headed off to finish the shopping, I was a little happy to hear someone else grumpy about the crazy prices.

What about you, with the price increases everywhere, have you noticed any of your favorite products no longer being carried on the shelves?

Fall Parade

There is a fun Fall festival this weekend, and our town kicked it off with a great parade on Thursday night.

We found a great spot, and waited for the parade to start.

Thade even noticed Geese flying South for the Winter.

The Fall parade featured many floats, and plenty of antique cars. Mostly it was Tractors, but it is a Harvest Festival after all…

There was plenty of candy too. Thade had a great time running around to grab handfuls of Tootsie Rolls and Lollipops. He even found one packet of his favorite Smarties candies!

Dylan wasn’t a fan of the candy though… He got bonked in the noggin by a flying lollipop, so he wasn’t too pleased.

The Fall parade was a great one this year, and we all had so much fun. The weather was just perfect too. We might check out the Festival this afternoon, I’m hoping to visit some of the tasty food booths.

How does your town celebrate Fall? Are you planning on attending any Fall Festivals this Autumn?

Giving Price Matching a Try

I really should have titled this post: Price Matching… Shopping with more Drama…

I have been thinking about trying this savings tactic for quite awhile. I have been wondering if I would see decent savings on my grocery budget by Price Matching?  I decided that I would gather up my loss leaders, along with my weekly  grocery list, and go shopping at Wal-Mart.

First off the main question, will our local store price match? I decided I would ask my favorite Greeter, and he was pretty sure that they would, but he pulled over a Manager to answer all of my questions. So I asked, and the Manager said that “yes they would Price Match, but it had to be the EXACT same product, no exceptions.” Cool, time to shop.

The kiddos and I made our way through the store, and I paid close attention to all of the prices. I wanted to double check and make sure that I would be saving more with the competitors loss leaders, and not just the retail price.

Once the cart was full and the list completed, we made our way to check-out, which was packed as always. I decided to take advantage of the wait, and organize my purchases. I placed my non-price match items first, and then I warned the cashier that I had a few items that needed price matching, and here comes the drama.

Cashier: Huge sigh, along with an eye roll… “You know I’ve been on vacation all Summer and I haven’t done a Price Match in MONTHS…”

Nico: With a nice smile. “I  just have a few items, and I’ve separated them, and circled the ads”

Cashier: Angrily flips on the light, and with another big sigh “Fine, I’ll call someone over here to show me how to PRICE MATCH, even though no one ever does this.” Now really not too happy with Nico.

Nico: “I really appreciate all of your help.” Even bigger cheesier smile

So after the Manager explained the price matching routine, and all of the items were scanned, I was pretty happy with the savings, even though they came with a lot of attitude.

I thought I would share my list that I was shopping for and my savings too:

Dr Pepper 12 pack: store price $4.28, Price Match $ 2.75

Dr Pepper 12 pack: store price $4.28, Price Match $2.75

Dr Pepper 12 pack: store price $4.28, Price Match $2.75

Cherry Coke 12 pack: store price $4.28, Price Match $2.75

Frozen Broccoli: store price $1.74, Price Match $.99

Frozen Apple Juice: store price $1.74, Price Match $.99

Frozen Apple Juice: store price $1.74, Price Match $.99

French Onion Dip: store price $1.64. Price Match $1.19

Kraft Cheese (block): store price $3.00, Price Match $2.50

Total of all items: Store price $26.98, Price Match Prices $17.66

Savings of $9.32!

I did save a bit by Price Matching, and on my next shopping trip I brought along my loss leaders one more time to save a little bit. I was planning on matching 3 items, but when I got to the store they were already marked down to the competitors lower prices. Hmmm, maybe word got around that the secret of price matching has been made public… I think I’ll keep Price Matching when the savings are right. Every little bit helps with the grocery budget.

Do you Price Match too? Have you been happy with your savings, or do you find that it isn’t worth the extra drama?

One More Trip to the Farmer’s Market

On Wednesday and Saturday mornings the Farmer’s Market meets just a few blocks from our house. I thought it would be fun to take Dylan for a little walk while the weather was nice and cool.

We came home with so many tasty finds. I also learned a few great gardening tips from a few local Organic Farmers. I picked up purple Bell Peppers, Green Peppers, Zucchini, Butternut Squash, New Potatoes, Tiny Pumpkins, a jar of Raspberry Jam, and a jar of Plum Jelly.

I also picked up a surprise gift for my Mom…

I thought she would like this little Summery blue bracelet.

Our Farmer’s Market is open until the middle of October, so I hope to visit the market a few more times with the kiddos.
