New Nook

We have been in the rearranging mood around here. It started off with me wanting to move the gazelle into the living-room for the holidays, but it just didn’t fit. We tried rearranging the living-room a few times, but it just wasn’t working out. We then decided to move our focus to the foyer.

The foyer has always been a troublesome room in the house. It is a room, but it isn’t a room, it is very open, and there isn’t any storage… It is also the room that you first walk into when you come home, and most of the time it is a little cluttered. After a little bit of furniture moving, I think this time we’ve got it just right.

We moved the love seat under the stairs, and we turned the foyer into a little den. I still have a nice sewing space too, and now we finally have a truly usable space. I would still like to address the jacket clutter, but that’s another project.

I love the way that the room turned out. It has quickly become my favorite spot to catch up on my reading, or crochet a bit.

Kitchen Updates

Usually I decorate the day after Thanksgiving… This year we started painting the kitchen walls. The kitchen was a mess after Thanksgiving, so I thought it sounded like a good idea.

The kitchen was in need of some serious work. We had wallpaper to remove, repairs to make, lots of caulking to do, and then we needed to prime the walls too. It has been an ongoing project.

I painted the new pantry, and started taping off all of the woodwork. James worked on the ceiling, and repairs. Then we got started on the fun stuff.

We got the aqua paint up on the walls. I am seriously in love with this color. It is Mariner from Sherwin Williams, and it has quickly become my favorite color. The kitchen still has a bit of work to be done, but we are off to a great start.

Pantry Project

We’ve been working on the kitchen a lot lately. We’ve flipped it around, pulled up flooring, primed, taped, and caulked. We are getting to the painting part. I decided to start off by painting the new pantry.

The pantry is where the fridge used to live. It is a little closet, that needed a lot of work. I caulked all of the cracks, and scrubbed the floors. I gave the walls a little scrub too.

I’ve picked out a crazy orange Copper Penny color to cover up the previous paint. I think it is really going to brighten up the little pantry.

I got the first coat finished before lunch, and I hope to get the second coat done by dinner time. I can’t wait to see how this project turns out.

This Week

I’m still catching up from the three day weekend. There is a ton of laundry to launder, the dishes are everywhere, and there is some painting to do too…

I’m hoping that I can keep the little gal busy enough so I can finish painting the foyer.

Some of This… Some of That

Well October hasn’t been the best month over here… We’ve been sick, the kids have been sick, and the house hasn’t been on it’s best behavior.

It all started with an early October cold snap. We were getting ready to turn on the heater for the first time this year, and it kicked on, but it didn’t work. No hot air… We called a few places, got a crazy estimate, and then decided to get space heaters, and wait out the cold.

The space heaters worked well, but the kiddos were still not too happy without the heater. We finally got in touch with the awesome repair-man who worked on our heater a few years ago.

We were all happy to have the heater fixed, and he didn’t charge us an arm and a leg. Thank goodness for a very kind repair-man.I baked him some chocolate chip cookies to say thanks.

On to the next troublesome issue…

The downstairs plumbing is on the fritz. The washer was backing up into the shower, and the sink too. We got out the auger and the snake. I went out for drain cleaner, we were hoping it was just a clog.

We called the plumber, and he brought out the giant auger.

He found roots in the line.

It looks like we have some big repairs in our future. Ugh, what a month.
