Christmas Spirit?

I’m really trying to get in the Christmas spirit, but after 26 years it just isn’t taking. We’ve been out looking at lights(nothing), I’m watching Christmas decorating shows(still nothing). I still have the tree hiding in the closet, and the ornaments have gone missing.

I have the Christmas dread, the cooking, the cleaning, the family in and out, and needed to be waited on hand and foot, then the clean-up after the big day. Not to mention the wrapping, last minute shopping, and making sure that I have enough food to pull off a meal for ten or so. Yeah, this just isn’t my favorite time of the year.

The most expensive time of the year

I am so stressed out over holiday finances. This is by far the most expensive time of year. Every day I’m off to the mailbox in hopes of holiday cards, only to find holiday bills. The gas bill (huge), tags and taxes due on the cars (huge), even our electric bill is still huge. I’m so sick of it. Gas prices are still so high, that I don’t want to drive anywhere, and this week we are driving to Thanksgiving.

Today we went to the store to stock up on the weekly groceries, and I had to get gas, because I have to drive out of state to find a decent price on groceries. So the little trip to the store ends up taking two hours round trip. And I’ll have to turn around and do it again, sooner than later.

I’m planning the holiday meal (I’m doing Christmas dinner this year), but I think after I buy the supplies, there goes the rest of my Christmas budget. Gone, poof. I think next year I’ll start a savings account just for these end of the year expenses, and save up for the big day. But you know how that goes.

Almost Done

Well I’ve started my Christmas shopping, and I have the two toughest people to buy for all finished. I still have to take Thade to get pictures. I still have to buy for my brother and my sister (in law), but that is it. I’m trying to be all done before the day after Thanksgiving. We’ll see if I get there.

Last Friday I went to a Christmas workshop with my neighbor, and I got a ton of great ideas. I’m trying to attack Christmas from a different angle this year. I’m going to get the meal planning, shopping, and decorating done early. So that way we can all get on with our lives, and make it through another holiday season.

The holiday season has arrived

I haven’t been blogging in quite a long time. So I’ll bring you back up to date. My husband and I just celebrated our fifth anniversary, and his birthday last week. Thade is getting so big, and is full force in the terrible two’s. I’m still at home, making jewelry, and trying to keep up with everything.

We took Thade trick-or-treating last night. He went as Dale Earnhardt Jr, and looked so cute. At first he really did not want to go, but after he found out that you received candy, he was in. We visited our neighbors, and only made it a few blocks( it was so cold). Thade had a great time, and he got way too much candy.

I love Halloween it is my very favorite, but it also brings sadness. The f.f.f (forced family fun) season is upon us. Thanksgiving, hang out with the relatives, and Christmas, don’t even get me started. I dread this time of year. Panic attacks, and shopping, and cooking. I need a two month long vacation in Hawaii to avoid the entire season.

Sleepy Easter

We had a rough day yesterday, it seemed like everything that could have gone wrong did, and the day didn’t end till after midnight. Thade and I went shopping, and our landlady was supposed to show our home after 2:00 p.m., which turned in to 12:30 p.m. (with 10 minutes notice) and the 2:00 was moved to 6:30 p.m. We left the house at 6:15 p.m. and returned home a little after 7:00 p.m., I started cooking dinner and there was a knock on the door. It was the landlady, she said that she couldn’t get the door open, and she needed to show the house now. We gathered up Thade, and put dinner on hold, and drove around town again. We got home just before 8:00 p.m., dinner was ruined, Thade was hungry, and James and I were a little grumpy.
We have two showings tomorrow, and Thade is running a fever today. He is down for his second nap, and he is just out of it today.

Last night, just as we were getting settled in for the night, Thade was finally asleep, and the tornado sirens started going off. We were under another tornado warning. We gathered up the little one and headed to my hubby’s store for a safe shelter from the impending storm. It hailed and the wind blew so hard, but we were safe, and Thade slept through the entire thing. We made it home at 11:30 p.m., and in bed a little after midnight. Thade promptly woke up today at 6:50 a.m.

I hope things go better tomorrow, and maybe we’ll hear some good news. Hopefully that closing is sooner, and Thade is feeling better too.
