Holiday Decorating

I’ve tried to decorate for Christmas a little bit more this year. I’ve also had a lot of fun making my own decorations from what I already have on hand. My Mom handed down her Mother’s lovely (and very breakable) cake plate to me, and I loved displaying the Christmas ornaments in it. I also used all of my glass vases that I had to make a little Peppermint and Santa Claus display. I love any holiday decorations that you can eat. For the dining room I made a Christmas Card Holder to display all of the Christmas Cards and Pictures from friends near and far.

My mom also made this adorable Christmas tree, it looks perfect on the kitchen table. She also gave me the cutest Snowman Spoon Rest, a great start to a new collection.

We also found a new Star for the Christmas tree, and cute Stockings line the stairway. Thade is hoping that Christmas will get here sooner rather than later.

A Baker’s Dozen

Cookie Day is finally here! Thade is pretty excited, and me too. I can’t wait to get to baking! Today I’m baking at least 12 dozen cookies, but I’ll probably bake 14-15 dozen so we can have some for weekend snacking. I’ll be baking or no-baking:

  • Coconut Macaroons
  • No Bake Chocolate Oatmeal Cookies (Thade’s favorite)
  • Wedding Cake Cookies
  • Candy Bar Cookies (James favorite)
  • Double Chocolate M&M Cookies (might be Thade’s new favorite)

I’ll be freezing the extra dough (not the macaroons though) and baking again right before Christmas. I think I need another cup of coffee to get me started.

We also have a few chores and errands to do today. So here is what else we have planned for today:

  • Assemble 4 Christmas Cookie Plates to deliver tomorrow
  • Pick-up new Prescription at Dr’s office
  • Go to Walgreens (maybe)
  • Visit Hubby at work (afternoon)
  • Clean the dining room table
  • Empty Upstairs Waste Baskets
  • Empty Downstairs Waste Baskets
  • Take out the trash, and take trash cans to the alley

Yeah I definitely need another cup of coffee, or maybe two 😉

First Batch of Christmas Cookie Plates

I found these cute paper Snowman Plates at Walgreens 2 for $1.00, it fit my budget, and made my Christmas Cookie Plates easy to assemble.

Last Friday the boys and I delivered three dozen cookies to the hospital, and three dozen cookies to our Doctor’s office. I also had a dozen left to take over to our neighbor’s house.

Thade had so much fun taking the cookies around, and he told everyone “Very Christmas” 😉 We had talked about saying “Merry Christmas”, but I guess he heard “Very Christmas”. Thade even got a Candy Cane from Susan (our favorite receptionist) in exchange for the cookies, he was thrilled.

On the way to the car Thade was proudly carrying his Candy Cane, and we were talking about sharing and giving to others during the Holidays. He turned to me and said “Mom it feels good to share, because you get Candy Canes.” He is just too cute sometimes. I’m glad he felt good about sharing, and he was pretty pleased about that Candy Cane too 😉

Christmas Cleaning

It isn’t even Christmas yet, and my house is a huge mess. There are toys strung from one side of the living room to the other, and the kitchen, who knew I owned that many dishes… It is starting to drive me a little batty, and with Christmas guests arriving sooner than later I thought I should get a cleaning/preparation schedule in place. Here is the plan:

12/16: Address Christmas cards whenever I get a chance. LAUNDRY!

12/17: Pick up the Christmas pictures

12/18: Mail Christmas Cards w/pictures, Finalize Christmas Dinner list w/coupons

12/19: Deep Clean Foyer, Deep Clean Upstairs Bathroom.

12/20: Bake Christmas Cookies 12 dozen, put together Christmas Cookie Plates (4)

12/21: Finish Wrapping Presents

12/22: Day off to catch up on laundry, bills, etc.

12/23: Clean the downstairs, GROCERY SHOP for Christmas Dinner ( no kids, Daddy will  be watching the kiddos)

12/24: Vacuum the living room, Charge the Camera, Clean the Dining Room, Clean off the Kitchen Table, Clean Upstairs Toilet and Sink. Pre-Cook what I can (mashed potatoes), Bake remaining 3 dozen cookies, and Bake Cookies with Thade for Santa.

12/25: Christmas Party @ 4:00 pm., dinner 5:30 p.m. maybe 6:00 p.m. I hope that I get everything cooked in time.

12/26: CLEAN UP ALL THE MESS!!!!!

I’m already stressed out, and feeling so far behind on everything that needs to be done. I just hope that I get the house in decent shape 😉
