Christmas Eve

I don’t know if Thade can wait one moment longer. Christmas is almost here, and as you’ve probably already guessed I’m so not ready.

Today will be a busy day in the kitchen for Nico. James is also planning on taking us out to lunch at a new restaurant that just opened, and I can’t wait. Today I think I’ll be baking all day, there is a Peach Pie to be made, and Vanilla Glazed Apricot Thumbprint cookies too, and a Chocolate Bundt Cake for tomorrow’s dessert, and if there is time 2 loaves of Homemade Bread. I had better get to it!

Trolley Day

I have been looking forward to this day for quite awhile. Tonight we are taking the kiddos to ride the Holiday Trolley. I think it is going to be so much fun, and it will be a wonderful Christmas memory with the kiddos. Thade is looking forward to the Hot Chocolate and the cookies that come along with the Trolley Ride. I can’t wait to see all of the pretty Christmas lights.

Before we can go on the Trolley ride, there are many cookies to be delivered all around town, and an errand to run too. Now if we can just see some warmer weather, we’ll be all set.

Christmas Dinner

Usually I make a Turkey (and a Ham), along with all of the trimmings, and I end up spending all day in the kitchen, and I’m exhausted by mid-day, and oh yeah I’ve completely neglected everyone that I love. This year I am mixing things up when it comes to Christmas dinner I’m serving a simple menu, spending less time in the kitchen, and more time with my family.

This year’s Christmas dinner will feature Chili and Homemade Turkey and Noodle Soup. I might bake a batch of Homemade Rolls, and serve I’ll Saltines with the Chili. I’ll also be making a veggie tray and Chocolate Bundt Cake for dessert. I’m planning on setting up both of my big Crock Pots in the kitchen along with Coffee Mugs and Spoons, so everyone can help themselves. The dessert and extra snacks will be on the buffet table in the dining room.

I hope that the laid back menu will relieve some of the stresses that come along with the holidays. I just hope that the guests don’t mind the new menu…

What are you serving for Christmas dinner this year?

Preschool Gifts

With some help from Nana, and great advice from Nicostuff readers, we finally got the presents all together for preschool. How I wish we had a Dollar Tree locally I think I would shop there everyday.

Thade and I set up a little assembly line, he would pick out a pencil, eraser, and throw in a peppermint candy cane too. I would then stuff the little gift bags, and tag them with my Christmas address labels that found  at our $1.00 Shop. The bags looked so cute, and Thade was really happy that he got to help out with the project too.

We took the presents to school on Wednesday along with Christmas gifts for all of the teachers. Thade said that his teachers loved their gifts, and gave him extra hugs to say thanks. His Christmas party is coming up soon, and he can’t wait!

Uh Oh Santa

One of the outdoor Christmas items that James really wanted this year was a giant inflatable Santa. We found one for a great price and all of the boys  were thrilled with the new Christmas decoration. We spent last Friday setting up the Santa on the lawn, and it was all tethered into place.

Last night the weather was turning bad, and really windy for this time of the year. I turned on the weather channel to see just how bad the weather was going to get, they were calling for thunderstorms and 35 mile and hour winds. All of the sudden thought I had better go outside and check on the inflatable Santa.

I went to the front door and Santa was gone!!! Uh Oh (as Dylan would say)! I ran outside, and saw Santa clinging to the house, flapping in the wind. One of the tethers  had snapped, and Santa was hanging on by the extension cord. I called up to James to come and help me rescue Santa, so we both headed outside and deflated Santa, and brought him indoors for the night.

So here is Santa today, deflated in a sad pile in the Foyer. This morning I brought the boys downstairs and Dylan looked over at poor Santa and said “uh oh Santa”. Thade was really worried that Santa was now indoors instead of being on the front lawn. I hope to get Santa back on the lawn this afternoon, if the weather holds out…
