Nope, not a Morning Person

Yesterday me waking up early with boundless energy and a readiness to conquer the day was a total freak accident.  Today I could not drag myself out of bed. I am so tired, and my noggin is stinging.  Thade came in 3 times to wake me up. Luckily my hubby was up early, so he was keeping Thade busy. Dylan is still sleeping, lucky baby 😉

Around 7:00 p.m. last night Dylan started screaming, his gums were hurting so bad.  I got both of the boys upstairs for baths at 8:00 p.m. Dylan was first and then some teething medication and Baby Tylenol, and miraculously he went right to sleep. I hurried and gave Thade a bath too. Then off to bed so Mom could have a little break. Thade was quickly asleep and Dylan slept until 11:00 p.m. 🙂 Continue reading »

Winter Worries

Early morning I usually flip on the news and see what is going on in the world, and I don’t know if I can stomach that task any more. This morning I was flipping through the channels and stopped on CNBC. I started reading the scrolling headlines, and one disturbing headline caught my eye. Projected: Winter home heating costs to rise an average of 10%! Nico’s stress level is now at a 12 out of 10.

Last year we spent our first Winter in our new home, and heating costs were astronomical. I can’t imagine what they will be like this Winter, or even how to budget for the increase. I’ve been stressing about Winter utility costs since about mid-Summer. Here’s hoping for a mild Winter.

What steps are you taking to winterize your home? How do you keep your energy costs bearable?

Where did it all go wrong?

This month I’m trying to cut our grocery budget and making more from scratch. Last night I attempted to make Re-fried Beans, and I miserably failed 🙁 Where did it all go wrong? I sorted, rinsed, let sit overnight in plenty of water, rinsed again, all ready to smash, and the beans are still hard as rocks!?! I added water, and let them boil for 2 hours, and lets just say the results were not pretty. I’m not giving up though, and I’m going to try to make one more batch. Any tips and pointers would be greatly appreciated.

Slipping and Sliding

Today was going to be one of those days. If I could have stayed in bed, I think I would have been better off 😉 Its Monday, and that means its shopping day. I took the boys out and tried my hardest to stay ahead of the rainy weather. One hour later we were finished, and it had just started to sprinkle. This is happening all to often around here, maybe I need to switch my shopping day. I got the boys in the car, the trunk loaded, and we headed home. The closer we got to the house, the harder it rained. Continue reading »

Failing To Get Ahead

This has been one of those weekends. Anytime I start to do something ex. tackle the gigantic pile of dishes in the kitchen, something else comes up.

I took the boys out on Saturday to run to Dollar General for kitty litter ( I really need to keep that in stock), and to go to the post office to mail bills. After shopping we headed home, it was Dylan’s nap time. I got Dylan down for a nap, and I started to clean the litter box. I’m cleaning out the litter box, and elbows deep in ickiness, when the phone rings. Its my mom-in-law, and they will be there in thirty minutes.

The house was a mess, and I wasn’t quite ready to entertain guests. Hurricane Thade had been doing his part to keep me busy in tiding up this weekend. I did a quick clean of the living room, and the dining room. I hoped that they would stay out of the kitchen and not see the gigantic pile of dishes that needed to be washed. They stayed a few hours.  It was a super long day, and I’m still playing catch up today.
