Homework?!?

0011

Everyday when Thade comes home from school, I check his backpack for notes from the teacher, and look through his papers to see how his handwriting is improving. Yesterday tucked inside the daily paperwork was homework… Happily stamped, fill out and return to teacher. Last week they started a poem to work on nightly, and memorize by the end of the week, and this week it is  worksheets to fill out, and another poem to memorize. Homework, really?!? in Kindergarten!

My hubby and I got to talking about homework, and we both remember homework in 3rd and 4th grade, but never in Kindergarten. The pressure of all day school is also taking its toll. Thade really truly enjoys school, but by 4:00 p.m. he is completely exhausted, and melting down waiting for dinner time. Drop off is also stressful, Thade often panics that he is going to be late, and receive a tardy slip. And the pressure of school has only just begun, it is only week #3, and the first year for all of us.

I find this a little troubling, to see homework in kindergarten. They are there for eight hours and then sent home with more tasks to accomplish… I’ve asked other parents too, and they are seeing their 4th graders sent home with an hour (sometimes two) of homework nightly, and that is just insane to me. I think that there is way too much pressure being put on our children, and my goodness they are going to be burnt out before middle school.

So what are you seeing in your school system… Too much homework, too little, stressed out kiddos? Feel free to vent any frustrations…

Got the Grumpies Monday

008

Loki’s got the Monday grumpies too…

I’ve got a migraine today, a really evil-nausea inducing head-splitting  migraine, and a bad case of the grumpies… The hot weather is back, we seem to have new neighbors across the street that can’t seem to park in front of their house and take my spot instead, and I got crappy mail today. Yeah, it is going to be one of those days all day, and I’m sure Nico’s grumpy list is going to keep growing as the day goes on.

Let me know what is making you grumpy today.

Watch Me Try and Keep It Together Today

It’s school enrollment day, and I’m a worried mess already. I’d love to blame the fact that I am a basket-case Nico on preggers hormones, but it’s really because I’m not ready for my big kid to go to school just yet… I know he’ll do fine, and I know we’ll fall into a school routine that works for our family, but this mommy is having one tough day.

Seriously, who wouldn’t miss this cuteness all day?!?

Well if I can make it through the day without completely losing it and sobbing at enrollment, I’ll let you know.

This Morning, I’m a Mess

It’s 6:45 a.m. and I can hear two giggling voices, I look at the clock and decide that it is way too early for me, and my wonky tummy. Then I hear, “hey Dylan, run into Mom and Dad’s room and yell Mom really loud!!!” At that point I decided that it is time to get up and wrangle the kiddos that are already running laps upstairs.

I get both of the boys dressed nicely for Church this morning, and we make our way downstairs to get some breakfast. I’m really not feeling that great, and today it must be showing. Thade looked at me and said…

Thade: eeww Mom, you look really bad… Are you morning sick again?

Icky Morning Mom(and I was): Yep, I’m not feeling too good today.

Thade: Poor Mom, I hope you get better, my sister is kicking your butt!

Icky Morning Mom: with a snicker, thanks Thade

I hope I can shape up by Church time, I am one big mess this morning.

Yuck Yuck Yuck

Seriously, why did my morning sickness have to kick in full speed today!!! I told James to go and pick up the pink paint, because the boy’s never made me this sick. I really want to crawl back in bed and sleep for the rest of the day…..
