Surprises in the Garden

Yesterday I was outside for most of the afternoon planting more seeds in the butterfly gardens. I finished up one fence row, and I moved on to start weeding the flower beds by the veggie garden. I was determined to get at least one of the beds planted, so just maybe I’ll get some good bugs to eat those bad ones. I was busy pulling weeds, and not paying too much attention, when I felt something big brush my hand. Immediately I thought it was a spider, and I jumped a bit and looked down to see a little brown toad.

I’m not certain that it is Spencer our beloved toad from last Summer, but this one looks awful close. Thade and Dylan shrieked with excitement when they saw the little toad, and they even got brave and pet him. I had to pick him up and give him a little pet on the sides, he is just to darn cute. I hope that he’ll stick around and take care of some of those bugs in the backyard.

Signs of Spring

I finally got the vegetable garden in yesterday. It  took me about three and a half hours to clean out last year’s garden, and get the second veggie bed started. I’ve still got to clean out two flower beds and get them planted too. If the kids allergies were better, we would be working outside today.

This year I have planted a lot of vegetables and a few fruits too. I added in Lettuce, Cauliflower, and Okra too. I would still like to start a Strawberry patch, and a little Pepper garden, and try growing some Pumpkins for Halloween. I really hope that we get plenty of produce out of the garden this year, and maybe I can take a few of the garden goodies  to the Farmer’s Market.

How is your Spring gardening going?

Just One Day

I really have no idea how this happened, but for the entire month of April, I only had one single no driving day. I even have a car that is in the shop, but somehow I managed to drive just about every single day out of the month, bad Nico. I had better do better in May, even with the single day in April I still have a yearly total of 18 days. We’ll see how May goes.

Earth Day Activities

0011

Yesterday to celebrate Earth Day we visited the Wildcat Glades to see Shoal Creek and enjoy the indoor animal exhibits.

Dylan loved looking at all of the fish, and Thade really liked the turtles. We ventured outdoors for just a bit, and saw a little lizard sunning on a big rock. Thade decided that it was way too hot, and he was all done with the outdoors.

We made a run to Hobby Lobby, and somehow I managed to leave the store without buying anything… weird. Since we were in Nana’s town, I thought it would be fun to surprise her with some new flowers at her house. The kids and I made a trip to a greenhouse, and found some pretty flowers. We ran back to Nana’s house, and got the plants planted just in time.

Today the weather is amazing, so I am going to go and get some new plants for our house. I think I’ll get a few Hosta to go in the Sweet Pea and Morning glory bed, and then some Impatiens for the hanging baskets too.  If I can find a good price on Clematis then I’ll be planting those too.

March’s No Driving Days

I’m behind on my posts this month, but I’m still keeping track of all of my no driving days. This year I’m hoping to reach my goal of an entire month without driving. March brought along Spring Break and several snow days spent indoors too, and all that bad weather kept us at home. In the month of March I had seven no driving days. Adding up all of the no driving days for the year so far, gives me 17 days without driving. I’m already half-way to my goal! Let’s see how April goes.
