Stay Ahead of the Weather

I’m going to need an extra cup of coffee this morning, it is awfully cold outside. It also looks like Wintry weather is moving in and here to stay through Friday. We had better get out and get the errands run early, even though it is going to be super cold 😉 Here is the plan for today:

  • Order my Brother’s Birthday Present
  • Get gas in my car for Hubby (it was $3.09 yesterday, ouch)
  • Go to Dollar General (cat food and kitty litter)
  •  Wash all of the dishes in the Kitchen
  • Put away 2 loads of laundry
  • Clean out the Fridge and Freezer

I might end up running to the store too, hopefully we’ll stay ahead of the Wintry mix 😉

Party Clean Up

I’m catching up today, and cleaning up from the party. We all had such a fun weekend, and I greatly enjoyed the break from the kitchen 🙂  Everyone visited yesterday to watch the Daytona 500 and celebrate the big 28 with me. We had lots of yummy cake too. I have lots to get accomplished around the house today, and dishes and laundry to catch up too 🙂

Back, But Did I Save?

We made it back from the big shopping trip, and both of the kids did great. I was shopping with a migraine, so I didn’t do so great. Today we shopped across state lines where the sales tax is a little less, but the great grocery savings were nowhere to be found. I did stay under budget, just barely.

Staple items were more expensive by $.20-$.50 an item. Also a dozen eggs were $1.98 where they are $1.70 here. I did find a few items that were less, Baby Formula was about $5.00 less for a 25.75 oz (large) container. I splurged and bought the large can of formula that should last me about 2-3 weeks, so big savings there. Also there was a lot of Wine on sale, some bottles were under $4.00, maybe that one was a Valentine’s Day sale 😉 Milk prices were very high, but I did buy some tasty Organic Carrots (1 lb) for a mere $.98 🙂

The big savings today was stopping for gas while I was there. Along the trip I saw gas $.10-$.26 less than what we are paying locally. I gassed up on the way home, and saved some that way, but my headache was feeling worse, so I was in need for some coffee. We stopped off at Sonic for a Java Chiller and a Small Drink for Thade, it was Happy Hour there, so Thade’s drink was only $.59, my Java Chiller was full price. Well there goes the gas savings, at least it was on a tasty Vanilla Java Chiller 🙂

All in all it was a fun and informative trip. I am saving at my local Supercenter versus going across state lines for the lower sales tax. In the next few weeks I’m going to check out the local grocery stores and see if the prices are any lower. I’ll keep you posted 🙂

In the Pursuit of Savings

This week I had planned on shopping around locally and looking for the best deals. All of my plans were halted by horrible weather, so I’ll have to get on that task a little later. Today I am starting my Savings adventure by shopping out of state. I hope to save a little extra on the grocery budget due to less expensive sales tax. The gas across the state line is also less, so I think I’ll fill up hubby’s car while I’m out of town.

We’ll be going out this afternoon, and I’ll (hopefully) be reporting back soon with the great savings.

Grocery Woes

We seem to be going through a lot of groceries… Thade and Dylan are eating a box of cereal a week each, and we’ve already used 2 loaves of bread this week too, all of these little expenses are adding up, fast. I’m making more from scratch to try and save the grocery dollars, but I think I’m still missing out on some local savings.

I do most of my grocery shopping at Wal-Mart (I know) just because it is a one stop shopping trip for me, and both kids behave well for the outing. I’m going to try and shop the local stores next week, and see if I can save any extra 🙂 That also means a lot of getting in and out of the car with two boys, one loves to shop, and one does not. It is going to be an interesting experiment 😉 I hope to find some great savings locally, but we’ll see what happens. I had better get my coupons together!

How do you save the most money on your grocery budget. Do you shop locally, or do you drive out of town for the best deals?
